Random hose in the rear battery compartment
I was checking the connections for the battery on my 08z and noticed a hose that was flopping around coming from the wheel well? It has an end on it that makes it appear it should be connected somewhere but I didn't find any place that looked like it would fit. Anyone know what this hose is for and where it plugs into?

I think it is the vent hose for the battery.

It's fine likely where it is. (hose)
Let it be. IMO

So you think that hose connects to the battery itself then? I had no idea batteries had vents.

I have talked to enough techs and others about this. I bet you there are thousands with the hose just dangling in the battery box. My buddies car and mine both have Johnson Controls GM factory batteries and no solid connection to the battery. His battery hasn't exploded. 8 years and still going. Lid shut. Blown out of proportion. JMO. There should be a GM plastic connector to mate the hose to the battery if one so chooses. Don't know part number.

There are other high cost batteries that do not require venting and some of those get replaced in Z06's, but if you have a standard battery, the that hose should connect to the battery.

perhaps that was the fitting you mentioned?
Maybe some of the techs you talked to can also change oil properly in a Z06.
OP, I am not saying it will cause problems, just that GM built it to be vented to the outside.

What did I say to you to **** you off Dave?? Wow...I just said from what I have been told by pros (mechanics with 25 + years and gear heads to boot) and mine and my friends personal experience. It still vents enough without the hose. My hose never had a connector to connect to the side hole in the battery. I might have hooked it up at first. That reply was undeserved. Agree to disagree.

Not in a Corvette, but I charged a battery once in a '48 Dodge pickup where the battery was in a compartment under the driver floorboards in the cab. I unhooked the charger from the battery after an overnight 1 amp charge before unplugging the charger, got a spark and a large hydrogen flame. That cab was way more ventilated than a vette where you must open a door to close the hatch. Summary, if you use a lead acid battery, get one with the vent and hook up that hose.

I recently replaced my original Delco battery and found the vent hose connected directly to this battery. The replacement battery does not allow for the hose to be reconnected so I just left it there.
