Not clean til its CLAY BAR clean!
I was working on a clay bar and polish day and had lots of downtime waiting on the Zaino so I put together a little video in case there are still any non clay bar users out there. Sorry about the music but it was free with the app...lol
Post of a pic of your clay bar shine!!

The occasional clay bar use does make a big difference in the surface of the car.

2015 C5 of the Year Winner
I was asked at a show I participated in a few month ago if I clay barred my car. Said I do maybe once a year and he said it showed. I'm sold on it also.
I'll try to get a picture up tomorrow when I get home from work.

Just so that people understand
Clay: is a product that does Not effect the wetness or total brilliance of the finish. Clay removed tree sap, bee crap, ( those little yellow drops on your surface ) clay will remove, air born contaminants, road tar, and bird droppings..etc. clay will " Pull )decomposed organic contaminants from the clear coat without removing the clear coat. when organic deposits like bird carp decompose, they turn acidic and etch into the clear.
Any machinist know if they get a metal splinter in their finger, the use of a piece of sand paper will pull it from your finger. Clay does the same thing.
Clay will prepare a surface for polish, and will protect those etched impression to your clear coat.
A test of a contaminant free surface is to lightly touch your finish, it should feel like glass. if you feel little bumps, that may or may not be visible to the eye, you need to clay.
I hope this helps people to understand the technology behind the use of clay. If your surface is full of contaminants, any attempt to wax or polish over them will not be in your best interest.
Years ago waxes and polishes had a cleaner in the can.. a disulfide ( very bad ) chemical for a car finish. this cleaner would try to remove these contaminants and in the process remove some clear coat (microns )
Clay safely removes these contaminant without removing any , None, Nada, clear coat.

Bill, since the clay bar we use must be some kind of synthetic, I wonder what the history of its creation is? Would people actually use pure, earthborne clay, and this was developed to allow product control?

I do not think natural clay soil is part of the mix...Just a guess on my part... I would be looking more toward the properties of silly putty.just another trade name. And MSDS SHEET...would reveal the properties.
The stuff works...

Juse my lust for knowledge
Since you asked, I accessed the 7 page MSDS...HERE are THE INGREDIENTS OF Automotive detailing clay
3. COMPOSITION/INFORMATION ON INGREDIENTS Chemical Name Titanium oxide CAS-No Weight % Trade secret 51745-87-0 Talc <5 * 14807-96-6 <5 *The exact percentage (concentration) of composition has been withheld as a trade secret.
There are no real secrets with the advent of a Mas-spectrometer .So clay is a mixture of titanium oxide and talc.
One of my college professors told me 50 years ago " it's not important to know everything, it's important to know where to find the answers you seek"
My brain is running out of room to store all of this stuff.

I have been a "clay" believer for many years. I clay all my vehicles at least once a year followed by polish and LSP's.
get a plastic sandwich bag put is on your hand and lightly go over a section of the car. If it feels rough you need to clay. You cannot detect those impurities as described in previous posts without the plastic.
Removing those impurities first makes polishing that much easier.

I've been doing this stuff for 55 years of my 72 years of life... next time leave me out of your comments, offer whatever you like but don't disrespect me in the process.
