Default Altinator issue help?

I have a 2005 with original altinator. Gauge bouncing around last night while driving (12 amps-14amps) and interior, floor, underhood lights dimming. Today I ran it for 30 mins in the driveway and it held true at 14amps....bad ground, regulator or is altinator getting ready to cash out? Thanks.

First of all it's alternator. Second it's volts, not amps. And third, I'd have the battery load tested first to rule that out.

Most every chain auto parts store, Interstate Battery dealer, etc, will do a free system check for you. I retired from the battery business, so I have the equipment to check it, but it would be a bit of drive. Ground is always a real possibility, but I would start with one of those system checks, if it says the alternator is bad, check it off the car, to confirm.

Batteries are far better than they have ever been, but you never know!

I have the same issue on my 2006. Took off the belt and spun the pulley and was able to hear the rotor in the alternator nicking the stator or case inside. Getting the alternator remanned this week. Easy to remove belt. Get a socket crank the tensioner over to loosen the belt to slide it off.

Check your connection at the starter solenoid.
