Color override charge

Color override charge
I plan to purchase an Admiral Blue Grand Sport. I resent the fact that you have to pay the additional $590 color override charge to get a RED interior. Do others out there feel that way? Am I wrong to think this is unfair? I appreciate your thoughts.

I guess "unfair" depends on your point of view. Chevrolet sets the cost of options however they set them, and you decide if it's worth it or not. Nothing you can do about it.

I look at it this way, you gotta pay to play. If I want it I'd anti up the dough. It's really just a drop in the bucket when you're paying the price of admission to drive a Corvette.
If you take a look at "CorvetteEd"'s AB with red convertible I think you will forget the money, and order the car. It's absolutely beautiful.

I paid the over-ride charge to put red seats in my NRB car. Its cheap.
OTOH, I didn't pay for a bunch of options I didn't want. In Chevy's defense, they have to build what sells, and an odd color combo can sit on the lot if the buyer backs out... just some CYA on their part... no big.

Personally I don't think they should charge for odd combos if you have a non refundable deposit down. It's really stupid on the Grand sport considering they are trying to use the 'Admiral Blue' as a throwback and the 96 had the option for the red/black interior. (and originally ALL the 96 Grand Sports were slated to get the red/black interior until they chickened out)
On the other hand, I'm happy they are at least allowing it now. There was a long period of time you couldn't pay to get an odd combo period.

I'm pulling the trigger in the next day or so on an Admiral Blue / Adrenaline Red 2LT GS. While I'm not thrilled with the extra charge, it is not preventing me from ordering the car I really want. Good luck with your decision. This is the car I plan to order.

Yes I agree. I also don't like to have to pay thousands extra for a color offered but only if you buy a package (like a blue interior). If we were going with exotic materials it might be ok but dyed leather? Come on!

Yes, you are wrong to think this is unfair. All the word "unfair' means is that you don't like it. "Fairness" has nothing to do with it. We don't know what it costs them to implement an "override." It could be more involved than what we think. Now compare that to the fact that I pay the same delivery charge as someone who gets his car delivered to California when mine gets delivered literally across the street to the NCM. Plus I pay an "extra" delivery charge to the NCM to do a PDI that is normally done by the dealer for free. When you start calling out "fairness" I think the color override charge can step to the back of the line here.

Red seat belts are an up charge as well. If I ordered it i would have spent the extra for both the seats and the belts. If you like it then it's worth the money it is not that big of a deal!

Don't think GM gives a rats if it's fair. If you want the option, it will cost. I paid the extra for the LB color. Is it fair, probably not but it is what it is. You want to talk unfair. I just received my registration today and even though we are exempt from a smog check for 5 years for new cars, the Sate of California still charges me a 20 dollar fee for not having to get a smog check. Damn state will get you any way they can...

Lots of things like this on the Corvette.
Do red painted calipers actually cost GM any more than black painted calipers?
Nope, but there is a $500 upcharge to the customer.
Do black painted wheels actually cost GM any more than silver painted wheels?
Nope, but there is a $500 upcharge to the customer.
This being an open market -- no one HAS to pay it. We can take the standard, or buy a different car entirely. Most people CHOOSE pay extra, just as you have a choice, OP.
Not very effective to CHOOSE to pay for an option, and then complain about it.
If you want your voice to be heard, vote with your dollars, and don't buy, then tell GM why you didn't. To most of us, it isn't worth the time/effort to fight, and we just 1) pay, 2) go without, or 3) change it ourselves.

One has to understand how 'manufacturing cost' are developed and what exactly goes into the 'cost'. Some comments here indicate a lack of understanding.

Since you claim to know so much, enlighten us as to the whys and how's grabbing the red interior to install costs GM enough to command am additional $1k from the customer... Methinks it's more just a gravy train for GM but I'm willing to be combined otherwise...
