Counting Cars history lesson...
I'm sitting here watching an episode of Counting Cars, which I usually think is OK. I even enjoyed visiting there last year.
I'm not sure if this is a new episode, but the Count went to a local collector's house to look at his cars. He was landing on his C1 Corvettes, all 3 of which happened to be restomods.
Anyway, he decided to give a little history lesson while looking at the guy's '54. He proceeds to say Chevy's first year of production of the Corvette was 1954 and that year it was a failure because they only made about 600 cars.
Uhh.... whaaaaaaat?
Kinda surprised a show this established would even air that.

I like to watch that show but it's all made up and contrived like the other "reality" shows. But you'd think they would do a little research to be correct on the stuff they pass out as factual.

Its always bothered me when somebody calls everybody "my brother"... it denigrates the term.
Its an unsolicited attempt at familiarity just before somebody does something that's usually not to your benefit...

But I did like the caddy with that monster engine it was on one of the other episodes in that guys house. said there was 600,000 in to the car.

Reality shows are just spoofs on the positive side of life. Does one actually believe you can stop random motorists and buy their cars at a reasonable price ? ( 95% of the time ?) If so do they get concerned a camera crew is following taking video and sound ? My first impression would be he is some kind of fruit. The shop guys do more acting than work yet projects get completed in warp speed. Total comedy act based on flippers and the classic car market.
Not that I am a fan of West Coast Customs, a colorful reality skit, but I enjoy the interior fabricator " Ish " if that is his real name. Have no idea how long the glued up foam interiors hold up but he certainly shows skill forming them. He should have his own spin off program.

I tend to have these shows on in the background for all the time that there is nothing worth watching, which seems to be most of the time.
Sad that with so many of these shows that very little of it is worth watching.
Mostly I find the "host/protagonist/lead character" annoying.
I certainly don't watch these shows to learn anything about cars - most of these guys are hacks anyway.
Come to think of it, why do I watch them at all?

I have yet to see ANY of these car-related reality shows where they had the slightest idea what they were talking about. Some of them feature a few very talented individuals who do quality work. Most don't. And when it comes to them talking about the cars they're working on, they might better just shut up. Their ignorance is staggering.

There again " REALITY SHOW " Yes the shop owner comes off as a circus performer and expects warp speed. Thank Boyd Coddington for this time squeeze thing. It was his tv appeal or attraction for viewers.
Regardless who was in the center ring with the whip certain individuals displayed real skills.
Boyd's first painter laid down some beautiful finishes.
The " aluma car " fabricators built bodies of aluminum. Simply amazing work.
The upholstery shop. Fabulous work performed in several days.
To be a hit they have to have an interesting, colorful, central character to lead the parade. One does not have to adore his style. Just the entertainment factor if you show an interest in the theme. Do you think Route 66 would have been as popular with an older couple in a four door Hudson with similar activities ?
Obviously we do not have the same goals for entertainment. Because I like a particular talent doesn't mean I am an avid viewer of the host.

I cant watch that show-they build the most garish looking cars. They ruin the car. I had an old boss tell me (while working the counter of repair shop) Beware of...and dont take checks from..."A Priest in sneakers" and "Long haired middle age men in cowboy boots". Danny on the show wears cowboy boots and has long hair and is middle aged.

I've never seen the show, or just about any of the other car shows on Velocity, TLC, etc. Mainly because I don't like being talked down to, especially by people who usually know less about the subject than I do.
Acquaintances that know I'm a car person, are always trying to talk to me about what they've seen on those shows, and are shocked to hear I don't watch them.
I did watch Overhaulin for a little while, because I was curious about the modifications they were doing. After watching 6 or 8 episodes though, I became bored with the show. I mean how many times can Foose reuse the same paint style (sides one color and hood and roof another)? Maybe that treatment is his trademark, but after a while it got pretty redundant.
I don't watch the auctions either. I can't stand listening to the announcer's spew misinformation and pure BS about automotive history.

I use to like watching My Classic Car on tv, then they took it off and now I watch them on YouTube. Can't stand watching those reality car shows on TV especially *** Monkey! And those other shows all I ever see them working on is a Jeep, new truck, or an '80's car!!

My thoughts echo most of the others here - as entertainment, I suppose some of these shows have something to offer. It's just a shame there have to be what were once some nice cars involved. A bunch of nitwits in black T-shirts running around yelling "WOOOO!" does absolutely nothing for me.
