Default May be picking up a non-Z07 and doing a road trip home? Brake duct area protection?

All,

I won't have time or the opportunity to put Expel or get skirts on the car. Does the car come with some mediocre protection along the rocker panels and around the brake duct area (crappy factory film)?

Any tips on preserving that area the best I can. My Stingray gets beat up pretty back there as it is.

Thanks in advance

Put a few layers of masking tape on it. May look shitty but it'll protect it till you do somthing more permanent.

Does the car have side skirts? Those help a lot.

Use the blue painters tape , it's a little easier to remove.

No skirts unfortunately
I wonder if they sell temporary Expel type material for track days.

I used the blue painter's tape, and only going 20 or so miles I had 2-4 dings in the tape. If doing it again, or going any distance, I would cut out cardboard, cover it with duct tape if it is thin cardboard, and then tape it to the car with the painter's tape.

Best of luck with your new car.

Actually the dealer says the 2017 2LZ with no aero comes with skirts like the Grand Sport. I haven't seen these. Are they the 3/4 length ones I've seen? I'm assuming carbon flash? Or plastic like the front skirt?

Thanks

I wonder if they share mounting holes with full length GM versions? 3/4 is better than nothing for trip home.

I would go with wide blue painters tape and perhaps add some masking or light duct tape over the blue tape for some added protection. You may also want to tape up the side mirrors as well. It won't look good, but it should be a good temporary fix.

Use Black Electrical tape over the brake ducts..blends in and is much thicker than painters tape

How far are you traveling? Doing the same thing next month. I need to go 65 miles. Thinking of hiring a flat bed and have it delivered.

Search google for "Trakktape". 6" roll, easy to apply, good protection and comes off easy with no damage. I use it on the track. Apply it everywhere and anywhere you like.

If you want to avoid damage, you will need to mask from the front wheels back to the bumper to windows height.
Try not to follow anyone close.

When you get home, Expel as much of the car you can afford.

XPEL has a temporary film that my installer recommended to me. Here's a link to it:

I drove my 2017 stage 1 aero Z06 from NJ to NW Florida with the 3/4 side skirts and the clear plastic film the factory applies to the brake duct area with no issues. Not a single chip in the paint.
