Angry with shipping cost.
Anyone running into this problem? Any way to get shipping cost down to ship items across the U.S.?? A store you use.
UPS calculator quoted me online that shipping a front bumper to AL. was going to cost $150. Great news right?
Well, today I went in expecting to pay that, oh boy, was I wrong, total price was $700. I ran out of there as fast as my feet could go.
Anyone experience with this? Anyone sold something and the shipping was more than expected? I hate having to drive into town just for a quote, but it seems like I'll have no choice if I'm the seller.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

i hear ya.. the problem is that most companies are using shipping costs as a profit center and not a break even type of cost center.. I ALWAYS check their shipping costs before I finalize the order..

There's a few reasons for this, as the Senior Logistics Manager of a large unnamed Internet online store, my team was responsible for 30,000 small parcel packages shipped daily across the US. Trust me, everyone makes money on shipping to supplement the bottom line when the customer pays the freight.
On your bumper, are you sure you quoted it right because I'm not shocked by the cost, though it may be a little high. When you ship oversize you pay for the cubes used. Normally there's a place of the calculator to input dimensions, weights mean nothing once you surpass one foot cubed. It gets very expensive to ship high cube items without an account tied to some big discounts.

Have you tried greyhound?
The maximum weight per package is 100 pounds. The maximum dimensions that we can accommodate are 29" H x 47" W x 82" L.
Not sure how big a bumper is.

Use ups freight not regular ups. They are trying to stick that bumper in a regular brown truck and you need to use a 18 wheeler.
Other suggestion is grey hound, or another large freight truck.

Greyhound can work will and is very inexpensive
Consider FedEx freight
As mentioned above dimensional weight rules as soon as you get past12"
In any single direction
And yes freight cost have gotten out of control

I bought a Monteray Red front fascia for my 06 vert and Greyhound was the least expensive way to ship. You have to pick it up at their terminal but not that big of a deal. Way less expensive than freight companies quotes.

did this shipment method with a targa top a few years back..............
fairly inexpensive, and a safe and reliable way to get things moved across the country.........

So does Greyhound deliver to the door or do you have to risk life & limb picking up the package in a bus terminal?

You have to pick it up at the terminal. My brother. who has restored/modified a few vehicles over the years, has used them several times large parts for his vehicles. Paid a fraction of the shipping costs, never has had a problem.

As stated above Greyhound or motor freight is the way to ship. UPS, Fedx price by size when over 12 inches and the cost is out of sight. I have used motor freight and greyhound both for c4 hoods and rear glass and not really to high in price. Just make sure the part is packaged well.

Any large city......LOL
But seriously, if the bumper is taken to a UPS store and they are asked to pack it and ship it, the cost will be very high. Their shipping cost is much higher than the UPS customer counter, and even that is much higher than shipping from a business that has a UPS shipping account. You might check with a friend who works at a company with one.

I am a business with a UPS account and the price is still high it is based on cube not weight for oversized packages. UPS is a small package company and that is their business model. A freight company or Greyhound is still the best price for oversized items.
