Help needed for 96' vette
hi all I really need an advice regarding buying a 1996 corvette, I'm offered one -still negotiating price- but the thing is that I'm not located in USA and I need to ship the car overseas; so I can't physically check the car. But I have the vin no., photos, video, showroom name and location..etc.
so how can I check the car, is there a trusted site to get the car history (car fax)? Any other detail I need to get from the seller?
As for the vette it's 1996 LT4, 6 speed manual. Done 70k mileage. Very good condition according to the video and pics. What would be the price range for it?
I really appreciate the advice.
Thanks

Hello. In the past I have used local C4 owners to look at cars that are local to them but far away from me. I have also inspected Corvettes for others when the situation was reversed.
What city and state is the car located in? You can go to the Regional Events section here on the Forum and post a "Please help with a C4 inspection" thread there. Make sure the person currently owns or has owned a C4 in the past. They can do a test drive, check all the switches and lights and take some pictures for you. This will not be a full mechanics test but will help you avoid a potential disaster.
Get a Carfax too.
Another alternative is to buy from a highly trusted dealer such as Corvette Mike or Roger's Corvettes. www.rogerscorvette.com, www.corvettemike.com
These dealers have excellent cars and can be trusted to represent them truthfully.

Anyone can explain the mileage report!!? That's for the car I'm offered. Trying to get in updated report but being overseas it's not working. This one from the dealer.

I could only guess why there are 2 odd mileage numbers on the report. I would be a little concerned that in the past 10+ years only 2,000 miles have been added. Sitting around in a garage not being driven isn't good for a car.

Dont touch that car or any car that has mileage roll back which means the cars mileage has been tampered. I got a 95 with 46k miles and a Pro charger on it.
I will sell for 9k if your interested. Clean car fax, trans has been rebuilt to handle the Pro Charger with a high stall torque converter cost $3500 alone and pro charger cost $6000 alone. Also comes with a new dewitt radiator not installed

I'm thinking the '97 mileage report was a goof with one too many zeros added. Probably should have been 12k which would be more reasonable for a car still fairly new. The 200 mile rollback seems also to probably be a goof because they are listed on the same day. (why would somebody go the the trouble for only 200 mi?)
The part I would be concerned about is just sitting at 70k from 2008 till 2012!

Streetside has a really good reputation of not accepting bad stuff on consignment.
There's a location about 20 minutes from me here in Georgia and they have an heir of quality (pretentiousness) about them.

The 121,000 one is pretty clearly a typo. The lack of recent mileage is anyone's guess. Broken odometer comes to mind.

I'd steer clear. Way too many discrepancies on this one.
Do consider getting one from someone on the forum- enthusiast who understand these cars are valuable.

Yep I'm steering away from it as I'm not in the states so no chance to check it physically and personally. I guess the search is still on.
Thank you all for your feedback and advise really helpful. I appreciate it. 👍🏻👍🏻
I'll post on "for sale/wanted" and see what I get
cheers 🍻
