Default Help me stop.

My front rotors are toast. I'm looking for replacement rotors and I am seeing many options.

All of my driving is on the street and is occasionally spirited. I don't need anything crazy for track use. I'm just looking for something that is reasonably priced and isn't junk.

Drilled/slotted would be cool for the extra "feel" and they look neat also. But if that spikes the price too high, I don't need it.

Also, is it true that the left and right rotors are different?

My pads still have plenty of life left but I'm guessing new pads to compliment the rotors is probably a good idea, yes? Again, lots of options. Ceramic? Semi-ceramic?? I want good braking power and minimal brake dust.

So, what do you guys recommend? Forum vendors will be a top consideration if the price is right. Ideally I'd like to spend under $300 for parts. But I don't know if that's exactly possible since this is my first time buying brake components for a C-5 Corvette.

Plenty of guys use Brake Motive on the bay and I have yet to hear a complaint. Rotors and pads under $200 I believe.

I don't use eBay.

Bought a set of used Baer rotors maybe 10-12 years back from another Vette owner. Still perfect, no issues at all. Paired them with Hawk HPS pads. Excellent stopping power. The Baers are drilled and slotted - they are cast that way, not just some holes drilled through a standard rotor blank, which some cheapies seem to be.

I know you say you don't do eBay but you just can't beat these:
FRONT KIT DRILLED AND SLOTTED BRAKE ROTORS & CERAMIC PADS Chevy C5 Cadillac XLR $97.82 with free shipping
Setting up an eBay account is easy. I have BrakeMotive rotors and pads on the rear of my 98. When it comes time for my 02 brakes to be replaced, I'm definitely doing BrakeMotive

How's this kit look?

For under $400 I can do all four corners. Or is this "junk"??

Brake Motive has received a lot of good reviews on the forum.

I would recommend a set of Hawk HPS pads if you change them. I ran them on my '00 and they were low dust and performed very well.

Well, I ordered the kit above. We'll see what happens next week when I get it.

Should have used Brakemotive off of ebay! Best bang for your buck. Great pads and rotors for a great price, plus free shipping! Why don't you use ebay? Don't like to get the best deals? Man, I wish I had your money. Why did you even post this? You weren't going to take anybody's advice, anyway.

Just because I didn't take anyone's advice doesn't mean it's not a worthwhile post. It's still information sharing and I'll be able to add my opinion of the power stop product after it's installed.

Your initial post said you didn't want to spend over $300.00. You then asked for recommendations. You spent over that amount and didn't even consider the recommendations from people on here who have the experience with this car and products for it. You'll soon learn that when you see a good deal you better jump on it, because they don't come around very often for vettes.

I didn't want to spend over $300 for front rotors/pads. Spending $400 for front/rear is fine.

I considered the recommendations and looked at product specs & reviews and made my choice.

I can't use eBay right now due to a hacker hijacking my account. My account is on lockdown until eBay figures out how to reconcile the issue.

I opted for the power stop kit as it's a complete kit including rotors, pads, bushings, etc. the price seems reasonable compared to everything else I looked at and the specs and reviews look pretty good. For under $400 shipped for all four wheels, I'm satisfied with my purchase and hopefully the components won't disappoint.

Ok? Ok.

Amen to that, I just recieved those $10.43 {a pair} with free shipping trunk struts today I saw posted here last week and they work great.
I've paid more than that for the shipping of smaller things than them.

Not true. Left and right have different heat dissipating directional vanes.

*EDIT* I should follow this up stating that I just replaced the front and rear rotors and pads on my '01 coupe with 33k miles. I went with Centric Premium rotors and Power Stop Z23 pads.

- Front Left: Centric Premium P# 120.62059
- Front Right: Centric Premium P# 120.62060
- Rear Left: Centric Premium P# 120.62061
- Rear Right: Centric Premium P# 120.62062
- Front: Power Stop P# Z23-731 (with hardware)
- Rear: Power Stop P# Z23-732 (with hardware)

I followed the following break-in (pardon the pun) procedure as per the manufacturer which yielded satisfactory results:
1. Five (5) moderate to aggressive stops from 40-10mph in rapid succession without letting the brakes cool and without coming to a complete stop.
2. Five (5) moderate stops from 35-5mph in rapid succession without letting the brakes cool and without coming to a complete stop.
3. Drive for five (5) minutes without coming to a complete stop to allow system to cool.

I don't have pictures, but if you would like I can snap some tonight and post them. The rotors, pads, and hardware were top-notch quality. I was very pleased with all components, and I sourced everything through rockauto.com for less than $250. The pads and hardware even came with the necessary lube for all of the moving parts including the slide pins.

+1 on Brakemotive. Got a complete set rotors/pads off the bay for 195.00 shipped. No issues at all.

Another +1 for brakemotive, I have no issues with them and they have a great price for front and rear rotors with pads

I am not sure which direction you might have chosen to go, but I thought I would follow up and post some pictures of my brake job with Centric Premium Rotors and Power Stop Z23 Pads.
