Wait for ZR1 to buy Z06?
First off, if this is in the wrong section I apologize, new to the forum!
The bottom line is that I'm looking to pick up a new/slightly used Z06 and was wondering if waiting for the ZR1 to officially arrive would be a better move. I'm hoping that the arrival of the ZR1 will drive down prices of the Z06 a bit more. I really don't know anything about the Corvette market so any feedback is appreciated!

I don't know if the ZR1 will drive down prices significantly or not (I mean, 650hp is already pretty overkill). I would think a mid-cycle horsepower bump on the GS this year would do more damage to Z06 resale values. That's really the sweet spot for me (beefed up GS), but since I want to buy used, I'll probably go Z06 as I don't want to wait forever to get into a C7.

Is there supposed to be a mid-cycle hp bump for the GS? That would be my sweet spot too!

Turn 12!
I would make that decision when you know for sure what the ZR1 entails.

Logically, you would expect a new ZR1 to start affecting Z06 resale due to a good chunk of Z06 owners trading in to the latest and greatest, the "king of the hill" effect. Since more Z06's would be on the open market, you would expect used values to fall.
However, look at the C6 generation. C6 ZR1 prices are falling and C6 Z06 pricing has been holding steady if not actually increasing. Last year, I was considering purchasing a used C6 Z06 and there were 2008/2009 models readily for mid 30's. Now those same cars are going for high 30's low 40's. Meanwhile, low mileage ZR1's can be had for mid to high 50's and low 60's.

Every year you wait prices will drop if you are willing to buy an earlier year model. So yes by the time the ZR1 is actually released (which nobody knows could be 2017, 2018, or 2020) Z06 used prices will drop.
The prices are also being driven by GM incentives on current Z06 models. Right now there are some decent discounts and if those increase then the used market will drop.
With spring/summer approaching I would think the pricing will level off and if you are looking for the best deal you should wait for the 2018's to come out and dealer start to offer bigger incentives on leftover 2017 models (especially as Fall/Winter approaches) or on used models.

The February 6th edition of Automotive News listed that there were over 250 days of C7 Corvette inventory in stock nationwide (this is based on current sales of C7's). This inventory "in days" number represented over 14,000 unsold C7's. There were over 600 fewer C7's sold in January 2017 compared with January 2016. The Bowling Green assembly plant is the only General Motors assembly plant currently running on overtime! Since the C7's first production, I don't think the BG plant has ever run on anything but overtime. GM has announced a closing of the BG plant for conversion over to 2018 models and the incorporation of the new paint facility. Speculation is that they will close in June/July and not reopen for 2018 production until as late as December 2017. Now is the time to buy any new C7, Stingray, Z51, GS, or Z06. If you want to do a special order, you will have to do it soon! When BG closes, the only new C7's will be from dealer inventories. During the shutdown, dealer inventories will decrease. What will happen to the pricing at that time will be determined by people willing to buy new inventory off a dealer's stock. In ten weeks the BASH will announce 2018 models and changes, which should include a ZR1 and a possible bump in the GS hp. If you can find a C7 on a dealer lot that makes you happy, you'll probably never be able to find one at a better price and you'll be able to enjoy it for the balance of the year. Go for it!

OP; welcome to the forum. As far as the ZR1 coming out; nobody really knows for sure, but it looks like maybe late this spring for an order of a 2018 model - at least that's what I've been reading on here.
Used 15/16 Zo6 prices are in my opinion actually pretty low right now. I've seen several 2LZ/3LZ 16's with lees than 1K miles in the low 70's. (CarMax, Cars.com etc.). If you check the NADA book, they are showing average retail for a 3LZ in the mid-eighties. If it was me and I wanted a "boss" of the street car I'd pick up a slightly used Z and enjoy driving it. The ZR1 will come out eventually; let the 1st year bugs work out of it then order a new one if your still interested.
