Default Steering position sensor

Does anyone know where to get a new steering position sensor for a 99 C5? GM discontinued them a little while ago and all I can find is used ones for crazy high prices. The problem with the used ones also is you don't what position the wheel was in when it was removed so they are usually not worth the trouble.

Unless you happen to find a new OEM unit sitting on a parts self forgotten your chance are slim to none.

I recall a few years ago seeing one advertised as brand new and the seller was asking $1k for it

Unfortunately used is really your only option.

Try Marc at Vettenuts.net. He may have a good used one.

He usually has them centered with the pin in place so installation is not an issue.

Do a Google search on the part number. The same part was used in other GM cars including Cadillacs. You can probably buy the whole column for less that a NOS part, if you can find one. They are more plentiful than you might think.

We have been selling 99-00 SWPS used for 7 years. They work perfect, same as installing a new one (which are no longer available)

They are centered with a locking pin ready to go.

So what actualy happens when they go bad, is it something you can live with or does it absolutely need to be fixed.?

Both AH and TCS require the anti lock brake function to be able to do their job. The car still has normal braking so it will stop just not anti lock braking. The loss of the SWPS on the 2001 - 2004 cars has the same effect except that the SWPS is currently still available as a new part. All 2001 - 2004 have AH as a built in feature.

In answer to your specific question, it depends on whether a used replacement part is available at a price the owner can/is willing to pay. Car is still driveable and there are many out there with failed SWPS still being driven.
Excellent explanation.

Man the used ones are quite steep. I might have to live with the light on the dash a bit longer.

That wooshing sound you might have just heard was me exhaling with relief knowing mine are reasonable. I just helped a friend change the steering colum in a 88 Silvarado, it has one. I didn't even know they had anti-lock brakes then and I still don't but it does have the steering wheel sensor on it because we had to switch them from one colum to the other.

Thanks again

After seeing the picture again I don't think what we were dealing with is a SWPS but it did have a protrusion on it that fit in a slot in the steeing shaft. But I'm still relieved.

Is there any way to cut one open with an exacto knife to possibly repair it in someway? Man that's a hell of a price for a thing like that

Having same problem - is there a way to disable AH?

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...post1594175108

I think its crazy that there is not a replacement for the 99-00 sensor. There are a ton of these cars still out there.

I don't understand how something created with technology created 20 years ago cant be reproduced with modern technology today. Its like why cant my tape deck be repaired with mp3 technology. Such Bullshit how they rip us off with used parts or make us by the newest car

I have compared the 99 Cadillac Seville SteeringWheel sensor
with the 99/00 steeringwheel sensor connector pinout and to me the seems to be very similar.
They also seems to generate same signals to the EBCTM , Phase A and B plus analog output . Bought my self a new spare for 75USD on ebay today .
