Default Ls3 cam swap

Question on cam swap. I bought my ls3 with a CMC-20 cam in it. Specs are 223/235 .610 .620 115lsa. I planned on getting a blower which this cam was ok for. As plans change i believe im going to stay all motor and would like to get the most i can out of the car this way as this cams very small i have been told. I had someone spec me out a cam which came to 235/242 .629 .629 113lsa. Looking for opinions on how much i will benefit from this. I supposedly make 471/435 now. My current mods are lg long tubes and x pipe with npp. Haltech intake. Ported throttle body. Ported intake mani. And advance incuction 260cc head porting package. Car is manual. I was told to expect about 510hp off this cam. If anyone has any imput that would be great. Also the cars not a daily driver. It will be used mainly for 40,60 rolls to like 150mph. Maybe occasional strip days.

510-525 rwhp sounds right.....I am putting in a Tick LS3 Stage 3 Polluter as we speak...I have seen 520 with GMPP heads, with stock intake/ TB.

Just nervous if those specs seem ok clearance wise. Should be a nice jump from this smaller cam.

I have an ls3 with 226/234 duration and .629/.629 lift and 113 lsa cam. It also has K&N intake, ported TB, FAST 102 intake manifold, LG 1 3/4 super-pro long-tubes, catless x-pipe and NPP exhaust. My setup made 480 rwhp/450 tq on a Mustang dyno. I think 500 rwhp seems steep with those mods. It might be a lot different on a dynojet though.

I have a Vararam, Hinson 1 7/8 long-tubes w/ a catless x-pipe and stock NPP exhaust and my cam specs are 235/243 with .621/.624 and 113 +2 and it put down 494/455 on a dynojet. 2009 Corvette.

Nice hows driveability with it and nice numbers. I didnt think 510 was far fetched with port work.

You should easily get over 500 with port work but the driveability is a little frustrating. You definitely learn what RPM's that your car isn't happy and try to work around it but sometimes you don't have a choice. My average MPG's have also dropped from around 21 to 14.2 but I do a lot of city driving with it. I still love it though lol.

Well thats the thing i already get slight bucking now around 2k with this small cam which is why i wanted to get a retune in the first place cuz that should not be. Then a retune is 500 and the shop offering a special 1350 for me to swap the cam with parts labor fluid and tune. So i said for that cheap why not. So im used to bucking. Plus its not my daily and i dont go far in it. In my opinion the more lope the better haha.

I can't comment on whether or not that is a good price because I did the work myself; with some help from some friends. I say go for it because it is a lot of fun. I'm curious as to what yours will put down.

What are your goals for the car? Don't get so fixed on numbers. I'm running the cmc-20 cam. I originally wanted to swap it out for bigger but my goal was to run 10s na and then spray the car. Last time out I ran a 10.9@127 on my second pass and the 60ft wasn't that good. With a solid 60ft I'll be mid 10s all day. From a roll I've beat boosted fbodies a boosted 5th gen camaros.
As far as the tune I'd say yes get it retuned before you go with a bigger cam. 500 seems kinda steep unless it's a big name shop lile d3 engineering. My car is auto but I have zero bucking and still get 28mpg highway.

No goals really just to get the most out of her without boost or spray. Talked to the shop yesterday they revised the specs a little since last time i talked to them. Doing cam and underdrive pulley and then re tune. Well see how it goes from baseline pull to finish.

I'm hoping to get even deeper into the 10s I have skinny front runners now and better tires on the rear.

ihra is faster than 11.0 nhra is father than 11.5 or 130 I think. I actually got kicked off that pass. I ran a 11.0 hot lapped it then ran the 10.9 and got the boot. I wasn't even at the track for 30 min.

Are they going to dyno it before swapping the cams? That would be an interesting comparison using the same dyno. 40 more HP from a cam swap is asking a lot when you're starting with a pretty decent mid level cam.

Yes sir. Pull before and after. Theyre acrually saying we could see more than 40hp gains as they think the 471 mark im at now may be high for my car. He said he thinks we will hit the 520 mark. Well see i guess. I dont care what it makes its fun as it is now so either way it will be fun. And according to them this isnt really a midsized cam they said its pretty small.

This is coming from them not me by the way. This is also a reputable shop on the forums here. So the end sign will tell all. Then ill give a review on the car and my first experience with there shop.
