Poll: Who actually tracks their cars?
So I know that this is a forum where there are more enthusiasts then there would be if just asking this question to a corvette owner on the street. After reading all of these threads and seeing people's reasoning for buying corvette they did base, z51, grandsport, or z06 one thing that is always mentioned are track times or track performance. Most corvette owners don't track their cars ever.... actually so many barely even drive them at all. Do you track your car? Were track times, figure 8's, and G force part of your reason for buying the model you own? As for me I do not and don't plan on tracking my personal car even though it would be a ton of fun. Which is why I bought a base stingray. Which model do you have? Do you plan on taking it to the track?

Well....I'm glad I'm still a young fella - I'll only be 72 in two weeks, so I've got many more years of tracking my car.
Tell me - how much older do I need to get before I can't drive track events any more???? I loved tracking my C6 Z06, ZR1, and now my C7 Z06.
My next event will be back at Daytona Int'l Speedway on the Rolex 24 roadcourse again in 6 weeks.
I hope I have MANY more years of enjoying the fantastic performance of my current Vette, and all my future ones!!

I bought the car because I've had 4 Corvettes including a Z06, and they are fun sports cars, very capable on track. I actually planned to take this one on track next month, but recently changed my mind. I'm just too old to be doing that any more, my skills have deteriorated and my reaction time is undoubtedly slower, so I don't think I'll enjoy it as much as I once did.
I too bought a base Stingray, but I did it because I flip cars frequently and the fewer options, the better I'll do (percentage-wise) on resale. My last one was a 2LT, and I just don't need all those gee-gaws.

My current Vette was built to late last year to track it, but I've tracked the previous Vettes at Daytona, Palm Beach IR, Sebring, and Road America. I'd like to add Indianapolis this year. Also, Talladega in non HPDE.

Had the opportunity a few years ago to do an HPDE on the Daytona Road Course. I figured I'd check a bucket list item off. I was hooked from that point on. I only get to go every 4-6 months, which is far less than I'd like, but I still love it.

Nope, not because I wouldn't like it, but because it is cost-prohibitive.
With event insurance at $500+ (I certainly can't afford to take a major loss on track out of my own pocket) and then add the fee for the track time -- that's getting close to $1000 for the event -- it just isn't in the cards for me financially.
My hat is off to those of you with the means to do so!
I bought a Stingray, and then added the Z51 sways (since I don't track, I'll never miss the additional cooling of the Z51 pkg). While it's true that I don't track, I do daily drive it, and enjoy, shall we say, "spirited" driving when conditions permit -- spirited enough to feel and care about the difference between the base and Z51-equipped suspension pieces.

I bought mine to track it, and already have a half dozen on the calendar. I'll be at Spring Mountain in a few days. I'm a DE instructor and have been one since 2000, but with a variety of Porsches. I can't wait to try the Corvette. I'll make a few basic changes to make it a little more track worthy...harnesses, seats, harneness bar, rotors (I have a Z07 but want a more cost effective rotor), and have done all of the recommended tweaks, like brake cooling ducts, alignment, brake fluid, oil, etc.

I'm in the camp with those that would really like to but can't quite free up the money to do so. Closest I came was Spring Mountain, which was a blast.

I'm not Poor-sha, but I think he runs VIR a lot.
There are lots of tracks where you can easily average faster than 90 mph.

There are lots of tracks where you can easily average faster than 90 mph.
- VIR - the Full Course that we run every June at the Nat'l Corvette Museum HPDE, and throughout the year with other organizations, is 3.27 miles. A 2:10 lap will average better than 90 mph. I think Poor-sha probably does better than 2:00 laps.
- Sebring - 3.74 miles in a leisurely 2:30 per lap is almost 90 mph (89.76), and it's pretty easy in our cars to exceed that by a good amount.
- Daytona Rolex 24 roadcourse - in the video in a previous post you can see a 2:04 lap in some traffic of the 3.56 mile track, and that's a 103 mph average. Some forum members are doing better than 2:00 laps.
