600 miles of smiles. My mother in laws journey for her new Vette
10 years ago my mother in law had to sell her beloved C3 due to financial reasons. This was probably one of the hardest decisions she had to make as she has always been a Corvette girl growing up. Those of us in the automotive hobby know that's like selling our first born. We pour our heart and soul into our cars. We shed blood, sweat, and tears to make Corvettes OUR Corvettes.
I can't say enough about my mother in law. She is kind hearted, loving, humble, hardworking, and a devoted mother and grandmother.
Ever since that cloudy day of selling her pride and joy she has said she will own another. Fast forward to a month ago she got word from her brother of a C5 for sale in the St. Louis area. My wife's uncle has been in the automotive business for over 20 years and when it comes to cars he is a perfectionist. So it was safe to say if it had his approval it was worth investigating. Being a Corvette owner my mother in-law asked what I thought of the “find”. My jaw dropped when she mentioned that it was a 6 speed with 24,000 miles and the seller asking $13,500. Needless to say, my mother in law gave the ok for her brother to purchase and hold it for her. Now the plan was to get my wife and mother in law plane tickets to drive the Corvette to its new home.
Once they arrived a huge smile swept across my mother in laws face. The 4-week waiting period to meet her new baby had finally arrived. Bear in mind it had been years since she had driven anything with a manual so she was off to a rocky start. Fear not my fellow Corvette aficionados, my wife to the rescue. Prior to them leaving I had been joking with my wife asking her if she would be able to handle the raw horsepower. She would just roll her eyes and remind me that we have a Z06 sitting in the garage. I’m not entirely sure what came over my wife during that “lesson”, but apparently, she decided to show her mother how to “properly” drive a Corvette. She proceeded to rip through the gears chirping the tires in 2nd and 3rd. I can only imagine the grin that crept on both their faces during this Corvette driving lesson.
They said the drive home was enjoyable with girls being girls, the top off , and 606 miles of smiles. And here's to many more to come.
Well enough of the journey. here’s real reason you clicked this thread.

Congratulations on your mother in-law's purchase. I hope as a good son in-law you check the date codes on the tires. A car with just, 24,000 miles on the clock could have some pretty old tires on it.

Congrats to your mother in law. Glad she was finally able to fulfill her dream again. Nice color combo as well. "I'll have a black and tan please!"☝
