Automatic transmission in 2016
A friend of mine has had some problems with his 2016 Z51 equipped with an automatic transmission. Is their a problem with the trans or is this an isolated incident? What are the problems if any?

If you look hard, you might find a couple threads on A8 issues.

The 16's have been better overall, but there is always an exception. Can you explain further what the trans is doing, and maybe we can give you with a better answer.
BTW, at 6100 miles my '16 has been fine.

Have your friend join the forum, then trade his car in for a manual trans. These autos are problem plagued and discussed here on the forum on an almost daily basis. Its Really annoying and gm should really be ashamed of themselves.

automatic transmission on c7 has reliability of 'natural family planning'
You'll get the same response when you start talking about it.
Some people will swear up and down that its just fine (and there's something wrong with you for bringing it up).
Other's will point out the failures.
Reality has been over the past several years roughly 15% failure rate (so far). [granted this is over the life of all C7s thus-far, as opposed to natural family planning where the failure rate is about 15%/year]

2015 Z-51 with A8
I purchase mine with just over 6K miles. No real issues with the trans until ~ 9K. It would hesitate/delay shift in 1-2, then go in very hard. I had a couple long road trips planned last year, so did them and then took it into the dealer for repairs. They installed a new TC, at ~ 16K miles. Got it back and then had leak in rear end and same issue but it was the shift from 2-3. Took it back to the dealer, they added "new program" for the shifting issue and repair the leak. This was 2 weeks ago I got it back and so far it's seams much better. Love the car and the A8 (when it works correctly) Was looking to upgrade to a Z-06, but plan to wait and be sure this one is fixed. I have to drive ~ 130 miles one way to the dealer BTW.

Two low mileage 2017 GS owners here in Florida had their TC's replaced in January 2017 and have reported so far there cars are running really well.
Both cars were August 2016 builds. Both cars had TC part # 24279495 removed and the 3rd generation ( maybe) TC part # 24280631 was installed.
When was the build date for your car?
Tks.

Bought mine in florida as well and had it shipped to Germany. Not sure of the build date but now I am out here trying to figure out how to get it fixed. I noticed the transmission being messed up within 50 feet of driving it. I went to stop and the car lunged forward. It always lunges when it downshifts to second no matter how fast or slow. Also in auto mode it shifts really hard and seems like it has trouble figuring out what gear to shift to when you lightly press the gas pedal.
I'm sure they have the resources to identify a suitable repair facility in your area. Once the problem is identified I would imagine they would be able to ship parts. Have you thought about getting a FAT 32 Class 10 SD card for you PDR and get some video/audio recordings that you could send to GM? GM's TAC centre by viewing the recordings should be able to narrow in on the fault. There are C7's overseas so there has to be some process for repairs as you are not the first.
I guess in a worst case scenario the car could be shipped back to Florida for repairs and try to get GM to pick up maybe a large portion if not all of the shipping costs?
........sure do hope you can get it fixed so when you get a solution please post as there are other overseas C7's......Best of luck.

You probably have elevated this in GM's customer care area?

What bothers me more than anything else is the fact that GM KNOWS all about the problems their 8 speed transmissions/torque converters are having and they are STILL producing them. Our Corvettes aren't the only GM products having problems with them.

I talked to GM and they said that my warranty will still be covered. I found a GM certified shop nearby and they are going to look at it after they do my 500 mile oil change on Tuesday . This whole thing is extremely frustrating after paying so much on a messed up car. I planned on keeping this car forever but with the driveline problems I don't think any of them will make it past 10 years on the road.
The reason I asked about the build date is that a couple of 2017 MY GS's built in August of 2016 did have the 24279495 TC in them. However , in January 2017 the newer 24280631 TC was the replacement unit so just curious about your build date relative to those two cars.
If its not too much trouble you can find the build date on the silver label on the drivers door located under the door striker. On that label where it says "Date" you will see four digits , EG, 08/16 which would identify an August 2016 build date.
Good luck with the repairs. That car must be a real head turner in Germany as It is so rare over there. Where are you located and do you have any pix you can post ??? Thanks.

If problems were widespread, we would see it by the innumerable threads being started all the time (hint: we don't).
