Best Intake and Carburetors for my 1970 L46
I am looking for some advice on the best intake manifold and carburetor combination for my completely stock L46 engine. Looking for a little better performance than the tired Q-jet can deliver. Its important that the combination fit under the stock hood for the base model C3. Thoughts?

perhaps search for a used Performer or Weiand dual plane call it a day if thats all you want to do (maximize bang for the buck)
Youll see some kind of gain wont be huge so why spend huge money

To go under std. hood, Edelbrock 2701 will fit. (it did in my 69 SBC)
I don't know much about carbs. But I know Fitech fuel injection starts at $799 :-)
BTW very nice looking 70 you have !!

i would go with the performance rebuild of the Quad, look at Cliffs' book
and a performance rebuild of the distributor
and a performance rebuild of the distributor

Don't waste your time. You drop $600+ into a carb and intake and all you will get (if tuned properly) is a few more horsepower on the dyno and basically no difference in feel. You can have Lars rebuild your Quadrajet for less and recurve your distributor which will make a much bigger difference. The stock intake and carb is not the choke point on your engine.

Sorry to thread jack, but what wheels and tires including sizes do you have on your vette. Looks good.

Before I restored my car, it had some aftermarket stuff on it, including an Edelbrock Performer 2101 and Holley 650.
It ran well enough, and the aluminum intake was certainly lighter than stock, but it barely fit under the stock sb hood using a dropped air cleaner base. FWIW

Sorry for the delay here... crazy busy at work and with the car!
The wheels are Forgeline GX3 18 x 10 with 5.25 backspace. I am running Falken Azens 275/35R18 front and 315/30R18 rear. These are the actual wheels that were on the RideTech 48 hour Corvette built a few years back.
To run this setup requires suspension mods - mainly offset trailing arms. I completed a complete suspension upgrade from Van Steel as well as big Wilwood brakes all around.
Great setup for Autocross!

Hi mp,
Your car does look nice.
What a terrific 'stance'!!
If your engine is the 70 L-46 350hp engine it's one of the nicest sb engines Chevrolet built.
I'd think having your carburetor rebuilt by a reliable person like Lars and also following his distributor advice would give you some nice results if the carb is tired as you say.
Regards,
Alan
I like the lower sticker on the windshield!

retain your original equipment,
send the carb. and Dist. to Lars, you will not be dissapointed.
bump your engine to #1 before you remove the Distributor.

Even with the improved intake and exhaust pieces, I retained the original carb and distributer. The engine runs great!

If you have the original 7040207 Quadrajet on that engine, I'd clean it up and look no further. There's nothing in the aftermarket that will work as well.
Agree with the others here regarding the distributor as well.
