Anybody not thrilled with the fit and finish on their car?
I have to say that I love this car ! Between its exotic look, its acceleration, the roar of the exhaust and its handling qualities, she certainly puts a smile on my face !! I am however, very disappointed with a few things....the sound system... my 2015 Mustang GT blew it away, this one is mediocre at best and its their upgrade 2lt. The rearview camera is OK, but not nearly as high quality as my Mustang. The most disappointing thing though is the way the some of the panels don't align well and the door doesn't close flush... you'd think on a 70K car, it would at least look put together as nicely as a Hyundai.... When I showed it to the dealer they said they're all that way, nice answer lol, but he did back it up by showing me some others on the floor.. I purchased it new so its never been in an accident... Other than that shes a beauty.. Time will tell if it can deal with it or trade it out for an M3 or something of the like.... anybody else feel that way?

As a guy who works on exotics as per of his day job, I can agree that the Corvette is a bit lacking in paint quality and panel finish, but it is overall a WAY better car than a Ferrari or Lamborghini, and is way more useable. Corvette is more reliable, gets better mileage, is just as fast on the street....
That super detailed fit and finish is really expensive to achieve, and how many folks would be willing to pay Ferrari $$ for their new Corvette?

Corvettes have had fit and finish problems ever since they started making them. If you want real good fit and finish better pick another sports car. Don't think Corvettes are the only cars on the road with fit and finish problems. Looked at a Benz S500, top of the line, and the fit and finish was not on par for a car costing twice the price of a corvette. Just my 2cents.

I had a Mazda rx8 in 2004, and the finish wasn't perfect. The hood and the bumper weren't perfect figment, but real close.
the c7 is probably worse than that Mazda as far as panel fitment goes, but the value of what type of vehicle including the types of leather the upper trim models use. You can't beat the exotic looks of the c7.
Not to mention the standard 455hp lt1 in the base c7, and don't even get started with the z06. That thing is just a different beast all together.
there is so much aftermarket support for the c7, such as splitters, spoilers, skirts, engine modifications which are a huge bang for the dollar. You can't beat the current c7 in terms of value. The platform just offers so much which ever trim you choose

Oh so true. But I have to say this C7 has been the best overall. OP, if you could post a picture of your problem areas we could probably help you much better. Just because the salesperson showed you one on the lot like your's doesn't show he is right. It just shows he has two cars alike.

Fit and finish on mine is pretty damn good considering the price. Is it as perfectly constructed as a hand built Rolls Royce? Probably not... but you can't have champagne tastes on a beer budget. People don't realize just how inexpensive Corvettes are in comparison with it's true competitors. I'll gladly trade a little orange peel and slightly larger gap here or there to save $75,000 or more.

I have to say that where it lacks badly is the quality of the paint. I have seen KIA's with less orange peel but I have also looked very closely at the Audi S8 and it was just a tad bit better. Fit is way better than my C6 and almost as good as my other two AMG's.
So in the end the C7 is doing very well for the price and the fun factor.

It's a bit more difficult to get the same tolerances with SMC panels as it is with metal, and some other materials. Notice the carbon fiber hood, roof, and hatch, are much more precise.
As far as the paint, well what do you want for 70k? No actually you will notice the paint quality on th CF parts is better too. At least on mine.

Honestly I read about the fit and finish complaints from Corvette owners and I wonder what level of OCD some of these writers are suffering from. My 2017 Z06 is a well built car. I also have a Ferrari 360 Modena and I've owned a slew of "S' and "SL" class Mercedes over the years. For me its hard to see a whole lot of difference between these cars when it comes to paint, bodywork and interior. My Z06 is a Watkins Glen Gray Metallic and from my observations the paint job is near-perfect. Actually better than my Ferrari's. Door and panel seams are pretty damn consistent. The only issue and it is not really an issue, is the car is made of fiberglass. There will always be more shrink or swell in a fiberglass panel when compared to aluminum or meta which can lead to the seams moving fractionally over time. The interior work and quality is pretty nice. Definitely as nice as my Ferrari but maybe not quite as nice as the Mercedes. Which is probably why I paid substantially more for the MB's. Just saying!

The Corvette has never been known for its fit, finish and paint because of its composite body panels and the gaps they need to have for heat expansion. That being said I think the C7s fit and finish is the best yet.

Funny, I've never has someone come up to me an exclaim, "That car looks great, but the fit and finish is pretty bad." They do remark about how great the car looks though.
That being said, the car is not going to have the same kind of fit & finish as a hand-built Aston Martin. The money you're spending on a Corvette is primarily for the performance. When they say you can't touch this kind of performance for the money it goes without saying that there is other non-performance stuff that you ARE going to be able to touch.
If you want performance like a C7 with fit & finish of an Aston Martin, you'll need to pay double what you're paying now. There may indeed be a market for that kind of thing; it would be nice to see GM dip a toe in that market. Maybe starting with custom paint jobs 100% finished by hand?

^^^ LOL... well Actually as we were looking at my car, my friend said boy those panels don't match up very well do they and he was 100% correct... he asked if maybe it was in an accident...so actually it looks awesome from a distance but up close and personal you see shabbily fit panels... but as some have pointed out you won't get the same fit as steel or aluminum so I could accept that answer....
OCD ? LOL honestly if you don't see it when looking at it up close, you're looking through rose colored glasses... I've owned 10 or so BMWs/Audi's in the same price range with better sound systems, rear cameras all the top current safety features and YES better fit panels... and NO you don't need to purchase an Aston Martin for quality fit panels...just saying..

This thread or a version of it has been going on for years! You will have Orange peel paint, possible loose fabric on seats, a plastic 2 inch deep cheap console, possible wheel clicking, We say ALL of these things are normal - LOL - so we have been trained to accept them as not a problem, They are on the same lot as a $35000 car....And we still love em, or I do - the good news is there are more aftermarket parts for this car than anyother and you can do whatever you like - keep the rubber side down and shiny side up

I remember this issue being raised before.....
.....one of the reasons being the use of fiber glass, it does have a tendency to expand/contract a bit more than metal(s) and therefore there is alittle more allowance for seams/gaps; not an excuse but a reason....

Yes the Corvette has fit and finish issues. When you get a chance, look over an original 1960's car. The fit and finish of these antiques is really bad. My 1961 Oldsmobile has areas where the factory grind marks are numerous, the paint is shaded to the point where you can see the spray lines on the roof, trunk lid and hood. Interior fabrics are inferior by today's standards. Our Corvette is perfect by comparison. Seems 2017 model year has been improved, my car's paint and finish is really nice, no runs or dirt, orange peel is virtually non existent, panel allignment is right on. I am happy!
