Default Looking for some info.

So looking for advice on what would be the best option for the $/hp/daily/end goal.

I daily a motorcycle most of the time but I do enjoy using the vette as a daily.

I sold my base and picked up a z06 well a month later and the block decided to commit suicide and crack and the engine died. I haven't pulled the heads yet to see if those are good yet but the block is cracked but no holes.

I wanted to put a ecs on he car and run low 10s high 9s and daily it.

Question is should I look for another ls7 block swap a stock one in?
-Stock ls7 block swap it?
-stock ls3 block swap it in?
-buy a piston/rod ls7 I've seen advertised on eBay?
-buy a piston/rod ls3 I've seen in eBay?
-other suggestions?
-any shop or vendors that sell a built or stock block for 2-5k?

I know I'll get some **** for puttin a ls3 in a z06 but same time with boosting it in the near future it's a cheaper route then going with the 427.
Then with boost I'll be running the same times and same hp for the most part

Thanks

Ugh.

Ls7 heads/etc won't go on an ls3 block. If you really want to run high 9s/low 10s then at least do a forged motor. You would wnat to go ls3 heads/intake/etc. I would build a 390ci or so. I would not touch ebay anything. Zero reason to run a ls7 block.

Probably another valve drop victim. Find the problem yet?

Check with Thompon on options, but if you want to keep your ls7 heads that limits you to a 4.125" bore.

Damn I wasn't aware of that I figure all of the ls stuff was swapable.(heads blocks)

So I guess I'll be looking for a new longblock.

It just happen yesterday got the car towed home was looking for the leak for where all the oil coming from and saw a crack in the block. I haven't had a chance with work to start tearing the engine part and pulling the motor out yet to find out the complete damage

I'll google thompon right now

For 800rwhp, a forged ls3 setup with any decent heads will work well. Just be aware you need new heads, intake, etc.

I wouldn't order anything until you see what happened and what can be saved. Odds are one of the valves is missing a head.

Need to make a few decisions.

Do you want to stay with a 427?
Do you need or want to stay with ls7 heads?
Budget?
Stay dry sump or is wet sump ok?
Iron or Aluminum?
End power goal?

Doing a forged ls2/3 with some basic LSA heads, convert to wet sump, and throw the ECS kit on and 800rwhp all day long will be easy.

Now if blower is out, then you probably want to try your hardest to find a used ls7 short block, 1 spare head (if only one is damaged) and go from there.

Staying 427 doesn't matter to me since I'll be boosting the car
Dry or wet doesn't matter
Aluminum forsure
650-750hp would be enough

LSA is the ctsv heads right?

LSA is CTSV or ZL1 heads. Thicker/better aluminum. Stand up to boost better.

I would look at a stock CI ls2 or ls3 block with forged pistons/rods, good MLS gaskets, studs, and off the shelf LSA heads with correct valves/springs.

I think if it were mine and the heads were good I would just buy an erl short block. If the heads were bad I'd have thompson build a 388 or 390 whatever they call it. Sometimes you can find lsa heads reasonably priced on the forums or lsx parts for sale fb pages.

ERL is out of business
His block is cracked. Odds of heads being good are pretty damn slim.

When I called thompson motorsports a while back about doing a short block for boost and about 800 horse he recommended a 388 I believe but I coulda swore he told me I could use my ls7 heads. maybe not. But like you said his are probably bad anyway.

Yes ERL is gone, and need a 4.125 bore. So unless that was a short stroke big bore motor, can't use the stock ls7 heads.

I sold my stock block for $3500 too. Thats about the going rate for a used ls7 short block.
