Default Poll: How many of you street race?

I am curious to see how many people here are street racing, track racing, both, or think it is just plain stupid. Feel free to toss in opinions or how you feel about your selection if you would like. I know this may get ugly but keep it clean or the mods will probably close the thread.

come on, Spirited Driving here and there, on expressways or streets when no one is around/empty roads are what make owning a fast car a fantasy that others dream about.

There's a difference between spirited driving and street racing.

With street racing, you're more likely to lose your $60K investment.

There's nothing in the poll about spirited driving.

I use to drag race just about every weekend on the local highway in high school. Last time I did it was 2 years ago after the local car show. Its not safe im sure. We still do it occasionally. The nearest drag strip it 2 and a half hours away.

I used to do it all the time when young (66 now). Although we were usually drunk, we didn't race in traffic.

I don't care about it anymore at this age so I don't do it, plus, living in the boonies there isn't much opportunity.

I see nothing wrong with it on back roads, although it's friggin' STUPID to do it in traffic.

Never done any real street racing, per say. Someone pulls alongside and wants to race, yea...for a block or two. Back in the day, we would hit speeds in excess of say 50 or 60 mph. Out on the highway outside of town, maybe 70-80. Never have lined up side by side against another car and drag raced. Some spirited driving...absolutely, but I pick the time and place.

Some of us old guys are lucky to be alive with the stupid things we did when young. You get older and usually wiser but still you never know when something comes over you such as a license plate with "12SECQTR" harasses you....but that doesn't take long or far.

When I was (much) younger, you could find me and my friends down on El Camino Real in Northern California most weekends where we did our share of street racing (from light to light). These days I keep my spirited driving to the interstate and mountain roads when traffic permits.

I am thinking that we all at one point or another have done some spirited driving with cars.

If I said I never have street raced I would be lying. For whatever reason it has been a while since I have gotten a good run in and that is a good thing. If you get popped for it there is really no viable excuse you can use. I am fully aware of the tragic outcomes that can result from this practice however. I have watched a vehicle hauling @ss make a (well try to make a) violent sudden lane change and the momentum of the car was not having it. I was right behind this car when it went from 4 wheels face down to the front passenger aspect of the car pointed down and the vehicle spinning in air on axis such that it landed on the rear driver side corner with all 4 tires pointing sideways. The car came to rest on its roof and that is all I know. I wasn't the guy he was racing by the way but I saw it happen and God love him is all I can say.

2013 base convertible with all factory performance options (manual shift, NPP, lightweight wheels, magnetic suspension, etc). I did a lot of lining up with others late at night in my youth, and at the local drag strip-(I'm 74)-with a big block 427 solid lifter Chevy. Now-a-days it's very rare for me in the Corvette. In 4 years, 3 chance occasions: beat 2 C6 Grand Sports and got beat by a Hellcat.

...a bit of solo spirited driving once in a while on empty roads, but no street racing...track-only.

That to me is not racing. Maybe exhibition of speed, but not racing.

[QUOTE=User Omega;1594180747 I know this may get ugly but keep it clean or the mods will probably close the thread.[/QUOTE]

I seem to remember when the MODS would remove or discourage none legal racing threads. Especially boasting or encouraging it in any way. Anyone remember that? Looks like they just comment on content now. Maybe I am mistaken.

You can find all kinds of bad results on YouTube even involving spectators, when cars are just ripping off a little rubber exiting a car event or otherwise.
