Might Need to Think About Selling this Hood ...
... to fund other needs.
My car needs a clutch and I'd like/need a new set of tires & wheels, as I really dislike the 18/20 staggered combo the PO had installed. I'd also like to look at a cam and intake manifold upgrade to go with the long-tubes, Borla exhaust and CAI that are already present.
I figure the t&w I have now are worth something, since the tires are still quite new and lots of guys might like 20", chrome C5 Z06-style wheels, but that will only help to defray a part of the new wheel purchase, leaving all the other stuff still unfunded.
I only recently got the car and was told pretty quickly that the hood is very sought-after. Well, perhaps it is, but when money is tight and needs are many, one has to consider out-of-the-box options.
New to the Corvette scene (don't flame me, but I'm a former Porsche 930 guy) I could really use some guidance as to the real-world value of this MCM hood.
Thanks for your input!

You're in golden? That hood is pretty much junk, I'll take it off your hands for 20$
All kidding aside, not sure what they run for used. Despite it being the wrong color if the price is right I might take it and I'm in Parker.

You were told correctly - an original MCM hood is a highly prized possession and, once gone, you'll probably never get a crack at one again. They were only produced for a short period of time and are sought after, not only because of their awesome design/look, but because the manufacturer's quality control was so uncompromising. I would advise you to think it through before parting with it. As you spend more time on this forum and get a good look at the other aftermarket hoods designed and sold for the C5, you'll quickly find that beautiful and good-fitting hoods are as rare as hen's teeth.
If after all this, you're still bent on parting with it, you should be able to get $1500-$2000 for it (plus the ride) and you will be inundated with pleas to sell it to many here and elsewhere. I was lucky enough to find one for sale here and a seller willing to ship it cross-country to me at a great price.
A vendor here has bought the original molds/process but has yet to get production up and running. The big question is whether they will be able to reproduce the original quality MCM was so rigorous maintaining.
Good luck.

Without a doubt they are the best hoods made for the c5. I have not been willing to purchase an aftermarket hood because the aftermarket brands out there typically have serious fitment issues.
No doubt if you put it up for sale it would fetch a good price. I host a facebook group called denver south corvettes you are more than welcome to list it on to avoid having to ship should you feel compelled to let it go.

One thing I can tell you is I wish I still had the MCM hood I had on my '00 - it went with the car when I sold it. The quality and fit of the MCM hood is second to none.
If it were me, I'd find some other way to finance more mods and keep the hood.

let me know if you decide to sell it... heck, if you were closer I would trade off labor for the clutch and mods towards that hood

How do you tell if it is a MCM hood or not? My car has a similar looking hood that the PO stated was carbon fiber. He didn't what brand it was but it was of the selling features of the car as I love the look.

Unless you have the original hood, by the time you buy a factory hood, have it painted and installed, you will eat up any funds you receive by selling this hood. I think it's a losing proposition.

I've been offered 2200 for my hood, and countless offers. I would not sell it for any price, at this time.

No offence, but if you want your ride to accelerate quicker and stop faster lose those after market HEAVY Chinese rims. find some lighter ones or go back to stock Z06 rims.
Thrust me it's all about rotating mass, but if like the looks and are willing to sacrifice performance then stay with them i think they look cool

Snapped a quick shot from underneath. Hopefully this will give the experts hat they need to identify the hood. If it isn't an MCM then I'll tuck tail and move along ...
The CF on the underside is finished and smooth to the touch. The buggered-looking area toward the center is where the screen bracket mounts - I have the screen out for refinishing.

That hood of mine is a proud possession, not only for its design and aesthetic value it adds to my car, but for the reminder that my Friend Mike Mickoz was a passionate designer and engineer. It makes me feel good that Mike is up there now looking down and seeing all the love and desire that he put into each of these hoods. The recognition is heart warming.

As for the heavy rims and rotating mass: in Post no.1 I stated I want the wheels gone. Part of this is aesthetics, part is weight.

Make sure you have somebody identify for sure if it's MCM or replica before you sell it...you'll be better off that way.
If it was me selling, I'd offer it for a "swap" sale to someone and try to find a local buyer. Just meet up and trade yours for an original in the same color plus cash. No paint, no fuss...all done in an afternoon for both parties...with plenty of cash to boot if it's a real one...
