Am I the only one that only uses M in my A8 GS?
I bought my car a few days before Christmas and have NEVER driven it in Drive. I tested an M7 and the A8 and i liked the way the A8 shifted better than the M7 and my last two cars were a C5 and a C6 with manual Transmissions. Seems nobody has issues with the A8 when in manual mode and I upshift and downshift the same way I did with my Manual Trans cars. Just don't have to deal with the clutch.
Am I the only one that drive their A8s in Manual mode only????

^^^ Close to my approach too. If downshifting for curves I go manual, but if I know I'm coming to a full stop I let the car downshift.

I only drive in M, but I have an A6.

I often use M in the twisties (A6), and downshifting to 1st at stop signs is cool, but on the highways and freeways when just going somewhere it stays in D mostly.
Sometimes I wish I had gotten the M7, and sometimes I am glad I chose the auto. The paddles help a lot when I'm wishing it was manual but I still miss the clutch every once in a while.

I run my A8 in M most of the time. During break in I used M to make sure rpm's were where I wanted them. In D the car will lug and over rev. BTW, there is some false info floating around that the A8 won't let you over rev the 4k limit during the first 500 miles. This is not true. I also keep it in M to avoid the excessive TC clutch wear and avoid long duration V4 mode. Most of the time for full throttle acceleration I use D because it shifts faster and optimizes the shifts.

I spend 95 % in M and maybe 5 % in D. M makes it a lot of fun when you learn how to "row" through the gears with it. If you time the shifts and throttle input right, you can make it sound like a manual.
I know some still have the opinion that the Corvette should not have an auto and all that BS and I even used to have a similar mindset, but that has all changed for me and I really like the A8 and would buy it again.

I really enjoy the paddle shifters and am in M mode ~98% of the time. And as previously posted; avoiding V4 / TC issues.

Just about 1,000 miles on my 2017 GS that I've had for about 2 weeks and the car has never shifted a single gear without me instructing it to do so. This was true for my previous car with a DCT as well.

I have noticed that while in M mode and really getting into it and shift from 1 to 2, the car hits what I think is the rev limiter and the car seems to shut down before it changed into 2nd. I am not sure if the car doesn't shift fast enough before hitting red line or what but I am always careful to shift before red line. Anyone else experience this.

If you're the only one that drives your GS, then odds are you're the only one that drives your GS in M mode...

At Spring Mountain I believe they encouraged us to shift around 5k. You'll find the car is making plenty of power at that speed to grab a good second gear. But you're right. If you wait too late the car feels like someone just reached over and shut the car off! Not broken. It's just keeping you from hurting anything.

That thread is helpful
No, but it feels like it sometimes. Took me a while to play around with M mode but now it's my favorite. Like my M8!
There's a useful thread on fine-tuning it a little too. Where is that . . . . found it. LINK
