Default Selling cars needing "easy' fixes

I continue to be amused by For Sale ads on the forum for cars that are almost perfect. just need a few "easy" fixes.

I keep wondering: if the fixes are so "easy" why doesn't seller do it and add it to the price.

One of my favorites is "car has A/C, but compressor is off of it. Easy to re-install." Maybe it is easy to physically bolt the compressor back on, and reconnect the lines, but that isn't all there is to it. And I can assure you from experience, this job is not easy or cheap.

Another favorite is "paint is in good shape, just needs a few places touched up".

In too many of these ads, "easy" is a word suffering from overuse.

Hi jv,
I'm often amused by the "project cars" being sold on which "all the hard work has been done"!
I take this to mean that all the work that can be done with a hammer has been done.
Regards,
Alan

I like the one for a motorcycle for sale on ebay a couple of weeks ago.
"I bought a battery for it to get it running, the battery does not go with the bike"

Hey, that sounds like my car! All it took was two weeks of work and $1200.00.

I crawl the seamy underbelly of the net daily for stuff for sale and seen some doozies,

Like you there is no easy fix, if it was easy they would fix it not add an excuse,

How about " won't last long"

Has ac: yeah this ranges from parts removed years ago in a box to just needs recharge, that ones really assinine, if all it needed was recharge the seller would have done so, just say ac doesnt work.

Rat rod, used to mean jalopy, now it means any and every pos with hack job repairs and rattle can black.

One on cl, guy wants to swap first gen firebird with more rust than car for corvette in great shape, but he has all the metal needed for repair set up in online catalog ready for you to buy.

No dreamers: aw, someone dreams of buying the car you dream of selling.

No tire kickers: okay, ive never seen this but if someone kicks the tire on a car i am selling i will ask them if they are off their meds and or drank whiskey for breakfast.

Yep, "project", hard parts done, wow, this cat will sell me a project that only needs easy part done...i better jump.

And "rare" how many super common cars do we see that word tacked on.

And lastly, starting in about 2015 almost every old basket case custom was a motion car, as sellers got asked for documentation ads changed to either motion clone, motion look a like or...would be 10 times asking price with paperwork.

Oh yeah, any project will be worth lots more when finished their loss your win.

And every car that has Corvette on the back of it they think it is a gold mine. Just because they watched a little Barret Jackson.

I always love "engine and transmission just rebuilt with only a few hundred miles on them." If you spent all that money to get them rebuilt, why are you turning around and selling it right away. We all know you can't easily get back what you put into these old cars.

And how many other cars have a "corvette" engine...seems more corvette engines were made than corvettes.

I like it when you see shows or try to sell something and the buyer tries to lowball bid you by saying "cash money" or "cash in hand right now".

I see this happen on fast n loud, auction hunter shows etc.

If you are coming to my house, why would you think paying with cash would lower the price? I sure am the hell not accepting a personal check or a credit card from a complete stranger.

I was looking for my first C3 a while back and found one that I was interested in. I was looking for a bit of a project but one I can drive while I have fun tinkering. I instantly start going down the list of things that I'll need to at least get it inspected on on the road.

Me: "so do the headlights currently go up and down?"

Seller: "yes, they just need to be hooked up to go up and down"

after a few more txts like that I realized I was barking up the wrong tree....

Looked at a '69 in Maryland a few years back. An optioned L46 that "just" needed a few things. One of which was the tach..."The tach just needs to be replaced. I've got one in the box here, goes with the car". Thanks. I'll "just" fix it as soon as you lower the price a bit.
The other good one was the break system needing a little work...Take it out for a test drive and the break pedal sinks to the floor boards without stopping power until it's bottomed out. "Just needs a little break work." Just needs a new master cylinder. How much you want for the car, again?

Testing waters and dont have to sell are both cheesedick terms different types but both are,
Both hope some moron will pay their ridiculous asking price, both know if on ebay budding wont hit 1/2 their price.

Often these are in kin with ads that want the buyer to make offer but also include " no lowballers" hah,
Dbags like that are just asking for a barrage of lowballs.

I'm with you on that one . There is no way someone is riding my cars away with anything but cash . No exceptions . Checks , money orders and even bank checks can be professionally forged anymore .

My favorite is the term "just restored." This can describe anything from An NCRS Top Flight car or a $100K resto-mod to a car that has a new tire on the back rear.

I have one that gets me in trouble here
"Rust free" hogwash!
Unless its alans car, a just restored/built car or super well mantained there is no such thing as a rust free c3.
