Looks great with your red interior. I really like the cue ball shifters, especially that their about an inch shorter than stock...it just feels right.

Just got an after market manual shift ball for my Grand Sport. As I went to install it I find it very difficult to pull down the shift boot to get to the release screw on the original shifter. Is this just something I need to use brute force on or is their a trick to it? Appreciate any help from someone who has installed an after market shift ball.

Some should be replaced, but I actually like the OEM. I had the cue ball version on a couple GT500s, but was underwhelmed.

You meet to push up (towards the ****) on the shift boot ring, then twist.

Yep, my chrome ring was much more difficult to remove than shown on the video's. There is a reason. This is a PDF that has pics and text as to how I got mine off and on:
http://netwelding.com/Shift_Knob.pdf

Frankly I make these PDF's as there are often tricks since we DIYers are doing it for the 1st time. Just bought the same **** with Grand Sport on the side for my car on order. Perhaps I won't need pliers!

In this case "love the help" from some others like the fellow who posted: "I was ready to use C4 explosive! Then I found out the secret, you'll know it when you get it off!" Big help, that was a Catch 22! You'll never know because you'll never get it off! Others repeated the instructions, "pull up, turn and push down." Also no help for mine!

Turns out the pins in the grove in the OEM shifter were so tight, pulling up turning than pushing down didn't work for me! You'll understand once you "see the shape of the groove" in the PDF! You need to turn it ~90 degrees CCW before it will slip down. You'll see what I tried before finally using a pair of small channel lock pliers over a rag to avoid scratching the chrome ring! I should have sanded the pins when I had the OEM **** off but didn't. Had to use pliers when I put it back on. Was fine for ~3 years until I jst sold it.

Great mod, made shifting easier with my fat hands. Also shortened the shift stroke by ~12% as it sits lower on the shaft.

I have the MGW Flatstick set up. My only complaint is that the shift ****/ball rattles and makes noise when it gets hot. Does anyone know where I can purchase a Stainless Steel shift ball/****? Had enough of plastic junk.

Never had any problem with my **** rattling. Brass inserts and lock nut make it pretty secure. You could also teflon tape the threads.

You might be able to get an adapter to make this one work..
Stock threads down to whatever MGW is. 9/16 x 18 down to 3/8 x 16?

Core Shifters has brass bushings to make that work.

Just found that the above website has a selection of threads....
