Hi everyone
State Farm has increased my rates steadily over the years so I checked for quotes and Allstate beat them by quite a bit.
Does anyone have any experience or opinion on Allstate, good or bad.

Allstate is widely known for their absolutely horrible claims payment. They literally "wrote the book" on avoiding paying claims.
Liddy (the CEO of Allstate at the time) implemented a plan to deny and otherwise underpay contract claims to Allstate policyholders. He did this with the assistance, of McKinsey & Co., the same consultants who created the Enron business plan. Liddy was the President and CEO of Allstate Insurance Corp. from 1995 to 1999, then the Chairman of the Board until 2007. While at Allstate, he orchestrated across-the-board claim denial and underpayment systems created by McKinsey & Co., which led to David J. Berardinelli's investigative book From Good Hands to Boxing Gloves: The Dark Side of Insurance.
You're in anything BUT Good Hands with Allstate.

I switched from State Farm to Allstate a couple of years ago and am happy with them.
I did auto and home since State Farm kept going up every year here in Florida.
Same coverage for half the price.

I have been screwed by Allstate twice on claims. First was when car ran red light and hit me second was property damage from unit above us. Both times Allstate denied coverage claiming in the auto accident that their client said light "was still yellow". Go figure? On the property damage Allstate claimed "it was ana ct of God" when I know damn well God had nothing to do with crappy soldering by a crappy plumber. I suspect God is not a crappy Plumber.
Check Progressive. Fast, simple and well priced.

I had State Farm homeowners, vehicles and more for many years. Always liked them. Dumped them last year. Do not like their new homeowners deductible method (% of value) plus their rates have gone way up without me having any claims. I went with West Bend. Better coverage, way better rates and good to deal with so far. A friend of mine is an independent agent so we shopped around.

I went from Liberty Mutual to Farmers Insurance and dropped a good bit. They are still the lowest for me after a recent check of a few companies. Amica was a close second.

And they all do "rate creep." Just a little increase each year till about the third year when the difference is noticeable. I shop each year and $20-$40 will find me doing business with a new company.

I had Allstate several years ago. Woman ran a red light and I hit her. She admitted it and there was a witness that backed up the story. Police gave her a ticket for running the light.
I lost my good driver discount because I was involved in the accident. They said it was company policy, even though they had the police report that said the other person ran the light.
We're now with AAA.

My wife is an insurance rep. She has the ability at the click of a mouse to search for the best rates and coverage. We shop every year. With Liberty mutual now, best rates for the daily drivers. As for the vette, it's through the NCM since it's not a daily driver. One tip: stay away from Geicko. You'll get cheap junk replacement parts from them...

Ive had ALLSTATE for approx 25 years and up to a few years ago..got sick of them raising rates for auto and also homeowners and investment properties I own(landlord policies)
I got screwed when a 75 yr old widow tenant had a rescue dog, collie mixed breed...and it nipped a stranger around the corner from her apt..wasnt even on my property. The guy who was nipped ...played the game..ambulance, 911, etc and then hired an ambulance chaser to sue me...Allstate Ins adjuster, in her infinite wisdom, paid this joker $9000.00, just to get the case off the books, and didnt even tell me until after I inquired status of case. Then when I found out I complained about the way they represented my interests, and payout...(note: my tenant had over 100k in her bank acct and they refused to go after her for any reimbursement) and when the policy came up for renewal , dropped my coverage on this bldg, but renewed 9 others I had...I told my Ins. Agent he could stick Allstate Ins where the sun dont shine...I found a new agent with a different Agency and Ins co....abruptly cancelled 12 policies , with better rates with similar coverage. You're in good hands with Allstate as long as they have their grimy paws on your wallet....and their thumb where the sun dont shine!

To the original poster, I used to have State Farm and they skyrocketed over the years making me switch to Allstate which increased steadily over the years. I decided to do an online quote with Geico and my premium was cut by at least 30% for 4 vehicles. I'm quite happy with them unless they suddenly jack up my rates. Good luck with your search.

40 years in claims
One word.....SHOP your coverage.
The captive companies (State Farm/Allstate) have only their company to dictate rates. Shop an independent agent who likely represents a number of companies for the best rate.

Something to think about. I buy insurance for when I need it, not to get the best rate. I'm probably paying more than some companies would charge, but I've heard all the horror stories with Progressive and Allstate here on these forums from fellow Corvette owners. Geico seems to get mostly positive reviews but not everyone is satisfied with them. New Jersey Manufacturers was excellent when I lived in NJ, but they won't insure you when you leave the state. I've got State Farm and unless they jack up my rates to some crazy number, I'm going to stay with them.

I have Allstate .. I have 2 claims (single vehicle collision - my bad - and uninsured motorist hit me .. and they paid both with no problems and very fast.. and in Georgia ..automatically added $$$ for Diminished Value. They are not cheapest and raise my rates every year also .. they all do. If I didn't have a claim on my policy .. I could switch to GEICO and save quite a bit and have better coverage. But I have 12 more months to go before the claim rolls off .. Otherwise every other insurance company is about DOUBLE due to the claim and Allstate has accident forgiveness.

Had Allstate for 30 years and they are just like any other insurance company. They increase your premiums steadily even without claims, and try to put after market parts on your car unless you argue with them. I'm picking up my Corvette in May so I decided to check with one of those online companies like Geico and Esurance. Turns out for the exact same coverage, it was substantially cheaper. The quote on my Corvette was only $60 a month. And get this, Allstate owns Esurance. I think I will be changing insurance companies in May.
