You would think they would make a vacuum canister a little fancier

Ford used those cans for years. On the Corvette they used a variety of canisters including this one.

My little brother was running an old Ford pickup years ago that still had vacuum windshield wipers. If the wipers were on, every time he stepped on the gas they would just about stop. We happened to have a later model LTD in the shop we were pulling the drive train from and I saw one of these canisters under the hood. We fastened it in his truck, "T"d it into the wiper vacuum line and the wipers never gave another problem.

Good luck... GUSTO

I mean, you can't really get a better design when comparing economics to strength for a pressure vessel.

So.... is it in fact a juice can used for the job, or a purpose built pressure vessel that just looks like a juice can?

I believe so but any round container put under vacuum needs some sort of back bone or it suck it self in

The workers on the corvette assembly line developed a taste for fruit punch after Chevrolet spiked the punch with caffeine to increase production after the 79 record breaking sales year. They had to get rid of the evidence after the auto workers union caught on. So they incorporated all the left over cans into vacuum system and the rest is history.

OK! Now that makes a lot of sense... judging by the quality of the factory finish on my 81's body....

Gm farms out parts who knows perhaps they got the cans from a can making company,

My dad used to run ginner box co in Jacksonville, well, kept it running, he said people would never believe how many boxes started out as the basic cigar box they sold by the zillions to edward cigars

When i got my 72 someone had a big dish soap bottle behind the egg crate, as a puke tank, worked great

its all about the lid and the base , the coffee can isn't strong enough at the ends . I was bored one day a long time ago so I actually tried one . the short story was it imploded almost straight away. No I didn't drive the car at all.
