I want to cut out the X part of the X-pipe
As I think I understand it is that the X part of the X-pipe makes the sound more raspy than if it was 2 separate pipes that are not connected at all... sort of like old school true dual exhaust that had no H-pipe or X-pipe, that were totally not connected, that sounded deeper and more throaty, and not as raspy or burbly.
Has anyone removed the X from the X-pipe and made it 2 separate true dual unconnected exhaust pipes? And was the sound deeper, a more old school deeper sound?
Not concerned that the X-pipe is more efficient or flows better. For this discussion the only concern is sound, deeper sound, by removing the X part of the X-pipe.
So...
Did it sound deeper, more old school, rather than more raspy without the X part of the X-pipe?

As stated originally, for purposes of this discussion, flow or purpose of the X-pipe is not the question at hand, nor is flow or efficiency, etc, etc, of the X-pipe is unimportant for this discussion.
Sound is the topic for this discussion.
Sound is the topic if the X part of the X-pipe is removed, and the 2 exhaust pipes are separated, not connected anywhere, leaving it a true dual 2 exhaust pipes system.

I think you would have less sound with true straight pipes. The C5s had an H Pipe with a small pipe diameter (1 inch if I remember) inside the crossover that supposedly provided some of the benefits of an X Pipe. It was about the closest thing you could get to a true straight pipe situation with the LS/LT engine series. However, a fair number of C5 owners switched over to X pipes and found sound levels increased as well as power.

Removing the x pipe will increase the sound level 2 -3 decibels . Also the sound will be less raspy, deeper in tone. Hope this helps ...

Are you saying deeper tone without X, and an even deeper than that deeper tone without the X but adding back an H ??
So with an H & without an X is deeper than just without an X ??
Thank you!

I can't imagine that getting rid of the X is going to make a hill of beans difference as far as a seat of the pants feel, even during very "spirited" driving...
...maybe track... or dragstrip.
But stock vs stock without the X, I doubt a difference could be felt.

Old school = no cats, lower compression and glass packs. People forget how much cats effect sound. C7's have 4 cats and they effect the sound.......you also might want to get the block converted to iron....that can effect sound as well.

I have been told by Borla that one reason on the x pipe was to help with drone sound also. x pipe help's to cancel out drone. Robert

On a side note, I just bought a Borla cat less x pipe. Waiting for warmer weather to put it on.

You're gonna love the way it sounds. I put a Corsa on and pulled fuse #42. My foot is to the floor as much as possible! I do wait until I leave the neighborhood. Don't want the HOA on my azz!

The x-pipe equalizes the exhaust pulses from the 2 cylinder banks which improves scavenging and torque. Without the x-pipe, you will be able to hear the individual cylinders firing more distinctly. It will sound more like a 60's muscle car.

little less "smooth tone" without the X sort of old school like 383vet said
firign order and more is different on the lsx so that contributes to the unique sound the lsx has.
On an old Gen 1 with no x it will be more raspy all you can do on yours is try. Why follow the herd?
