Default Wheel Guru's Please Help

Im toying with putting satin black HRE RS105's on my 13 ZR1. Ive never purchased custom wheels before and since tire options are already few for our cars I don't want to create more problems there.

Its been suggested I stick with stock 19x10 for the fronts but on the rears go to a 20x13 (vs 20x12) wheel and run the stock 335,25/20 tire.

What happens when you do this? The tire just "spreads out" a little resulting in the wheel well filling up a little more for a slightly more aggressive stance in the back? Ive been assured this change wont result in rubbing etc.

Also, what should be requested in terms of offset? Stick to stock or modify for a different look, etc?

Any thoughts from those who have been there? Thanks very much

I've got Strasse Forged wheels on my zr1. I have 19x10.5 fronts and 20x12.5 rears. 285 tire up front and 345 tire on the rear. Definitely don't get stock offsets. Get a more aggressive offset so the wheels/tires are flush with the fenders. The place you order them from should know what the proper offset is to achieve that.

Any pics you can put up from assorted angles to highlight the offset your talking about? I'm also interested in looking at your 12.5 and 345 size. Thanks !

Stock offsets would have the wheels way inside the fenders. If you ran a straight edge down the fenders, the wheels are dead even with it.

You also really want to check and make sure that the huge calipers will fit in the wheel. A lot of people have had to grind the calipers down or get a smaller break kit. I would also suggest getting a smaller wheel size in the rear so you can fit a bigger sidewall and get more traction. There is plenty of grippy tires out there that perform way better than the stocks.

Those pics show exactly why when I ordered my forged wheels, i stuck with a 12" wide wheel. Those tires look too stretched to me and don't provide any protection for the lip of the wheel.

Wheels I have coming will be
19x10.5 et35 running 295/30/19 r888
19x12 et50 running 345/30/19 r888

If you do go 12.5 wide, I was recommended et55.

Regarding tires im torn as to whether to go down to a 19" or not. Would like to see how a 345 looks on a 19" on the car. How wide do you go with a 19". AND, if you step down to a 19" from the stock 20" does the bigger sidewall essentially make up the difference in rim size? Im new to all this and trying to educate myself and make the right decision. THANKS

more sidewall = better traction. you go from 345/25/20 to 345/30/19

So the 345 tire on a 19" vs the stock 335 tire on the 20" results in what? A tire that is roughly 1/3" wider and 3/4" taller? Does that sound right? Trying to get an idea of how "meaty" that tire is / is it a steamroller or close to stock I haven't seen one? TY

It looks like if you stay on 20" your limited pretty much to Michelin PSS's. On 19's and 345's you can do PSS's , R888's, or NT05R's but I don't see any Sport Cup 2 size in a 345. Is this all correct ? Thanks

You can get drag radials in 19", but not 20" since the MTs have apparently been discontinued with no ETA on a replacement. Width of the tire matters very little for traction.

The tires are definitely not stretched. If you hit a curb with your wheel, there is no low profile tire that you can put on a corvette that will protect the wheel. Just be more careful

it really depends on the wheel offset, notice how the entire wheel face is outside of the body some?

front tires in that picture are stretched too on an 11" wheel.

I would not recommend a 20x13 rear wheel because the Nitto INVO is about the only tire that can stretch to 13" wide without going to a taller profile. Even at 345/25x20, it has to stretch to cover it. If you do a 12.5" wide rear with the correct offset, you can get the look you want regarding "flushness" with the fender well, but there are so many more choices of tires. You can still do the 345/25 INVO or any 335/25x20 tire like the Michelin Super Sports.
