Default Black wheels...

Okay, I know this has probably been asked and answered 1,000 times. I searched but couldn't find an answer.

My 2017 Admiral Blue GS has the black painted wheel option. I've read numerous posts about how dirty they get from brake dust. My question is not about how to clean them. I'd like to know what you use to polish them to prevent and/or reduce the accumulation of brake dust. And yes, I know I can replace the brake pads to reduce dust. I may do that at some point.

I just went to Auto Zone and couldn't find any products specifically for black painted wheels. I assume that if they are painted I can just use the same type of wax I would use on the car itself. Any thoughts?

I've tried a few different things. So far the product that has worked the best is Hydro2. It's expensive though. I sealed my wheels first with Pinnacle Diamond Coat, then I use the Hydro every couple of washes. It lasts for a while.

I just ran out of Hydro and picked up some Nanoskin brake dust shield so I'll see how that works now. I've tried Armor All wheel shield, Sonax wheel shield and adams buttery wax, but none of those worked as well as the Hydro2. Those wheels get so dirty with the stock pads though, it's a battle you can't win.

Use a paint sealant. Ths will make them easier to keep clean. Since you have a GS the pads dust a lot.

My Audi S5 did not have black wheels (painted silver instead) but the S5 was known for brake dust.

On the silver wheels, I had pretty amazing results with Armor All 78482 Wheel Protectant. Really reduced the dust buildup. Might help with black too.

Here is the only thing I've found that works to keep wheels clean. Clean 'em often. I'm going to change pads soon.

Just replace the brake pads with Powerstops and 99% of your dust issue is gone.

You can also coat them and it will make them easier to clean. I have Gtechniq Wheel armor coating on mine and it works real well.

Between Powerstop pads and the above coating, I have almost zero brake dust issues. I also use the above coating on my track wheels.

the most economical and efficient option is to replace the pads.

Use the same wax you are using on your car surface. Also as mentioned, clean often, Speed Master makes a good wheel brush.
