Default VIN verifcation

Hi,

I am brand new to this forum. I just inherited a 1967 Corvette from my father and now I am trying to do a little research to see if it is a numbers matching car and a little worried that it is not.
The VIN tag shows 194677s119258.
Engine VIN shows 7101249 V09I2HT
Block stamp shows 3892657
Block date shows I86.

I am guessing this is an engine from 1966, but is it a Vette engine or Truck or does anyone know.

Thanks for the help!

Jeff

Hi Jeff - your engine is a 1967 Corvette 327/350HP from car #1249, so VIN of 194377S101249 or 194677S101249. This is obviously not a match for your car's VIN, so not a 'numbers matching' engine but if the stamp pad looks good (photos needed!!) the owner of 1967 car# 1249 would REALLY like to hear from you!! The 657 block is appropriate 327 block for 1967, the block date I86 is September 8, 1966, appropriate for an engine with build date of September 12, 1966.

The engine casting date is September 8, 1966, well within the '67 model year. The engine block casting number fits a 327 CI, Corvette engine. The engine suffix stamp shows an engine assembly date of September 12, 1966 and is a 350 HP 327 CI, manual transmission, Corvette engine. The VIN on your stamp pad is not for your car, but everything else would fit a 350 HP, 327 CI, 1967 Corvette built early in the model year. Unfortunately, your VIN number shows a late 1967 model year made Corvette.

Good looking pad too. Odd that you have an L79 350hp motor with what appears to be painted (orange) base motor valve covers on the motor, but yet appears you have an aluminum intake (presumably a 409 correct for the L79 motor)....Odd....
That looks like a real motor...I would have it gone through to make sure it's good (no cracks etc, ) and rebuilt and put it in your vette. If you find the car (based upon the VIN) that the motor belongs in i am SURE that the owner of the car would make you an offer you couldn't refuse for the motor....
Cool stuff.....Thanks for posting

VIN:1249 is not listed in the Corvette C2 Registry. That was the only site I checked for that VIN, maybe the owner of that car is a CF member.

Default Thursday, May 25, 1967

We would love to see pictures of your car.

The Final Assembly Date is of your convertible is Thursday, May 25, 1967

Therefore all other numbers should be slightly before this date

Is there a way to get a build sheet or to figure out what engine was originally in this car?

If you are really, really lucky, the tank sticker may still be on the top of the gas tank. That is the only hope.

As an obviously unrestored car with a lot of patina, you can probably get a good idea if it came with a 300 HP motor or a 350 HP motor by the tach redline. A picture of that could help. Someone could always have replaced the instrument panel or tach over 50 years but it could be a good indicator.

Congratulations - you have a very desirable 67 convertible Vette with a desirable Vette motor in it. A very good starting place.

I would look at the vin stamp on the frame to determine which car I have.
