[C1] 306 Radiator Cap on eBay

306 Radiator Cap on eBay
In the future, I will be puttying up for sale other Corvette specific parts from my collection. This is the first try. I am asking and I would like feedback on what guys know about this part as to what it was put on? The only cap with 306 I can find is for a 1961 Vette. My cap looks nothing like the reproduction caps I see on the Net. Are the repros wrong in detail or is this cap made for another year? Basically, I would like an education as to usage, scarcity, values, etc... anything of usefulness in selling this cap. Thank you, in advance, for your help. A link to the item is provided: http://www.ebay.com/itm/172595730326...84.m1555.l2649

Why do you have such a ridiculous price on it? It's just a radiator cap.

Mike, A good question I cannot answer. I see others, like this out of focus much worse example for over twice as much and think, I'll price it to sell, as that is what I want to do. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/3216222...&ul_noapp=true
Then there is this:http://www.ebay.com/itm/1961-Corvett...870572/?_ul=EC
And reproduction in metal is $40...You'd probably say that is high too? Point is , supply and demand. I have sold brake booster valves for $125, thermostat housings for $100 and a Throttle rod for $212 and Pulley for $305 I am sure all ridiculous to some, but those were just lowly Camaro parts and that is what the market bears for nice parts for top restored cars.
Kind of why I posted? To find out a little more and gauge the price. Thank you for your reply.

Because he wants to make as much $$$ as possible. Thank goodness grossly-overpriced, ho-hum items like this don't interest me, and I own a '61, too. I would use a cork before paying $100+ for a radiator cap.

He certainly has a right to ask whatever he wants for it and maybe some originality wonk or NCRS zealot will pick it up. I have no idea how rare they are. I wouldn't buy it but some might...

I certainly did not expect or need to have my crap run into the ground. That is pretty much useless information from what I asked for. But regardless, some feel they have to have a say. I really would like to get more serious evaluation from guys that are of the NCRS type and not the kind that puts a cork in there radiator.

Thanks Frankie the Fink. I guess I could start at a $1 and may do?

I think you are just using this forum to get some more advertisement for your parts on ebay vs getting "feedback". Obviously, the feedback wasn't what you were hoping for. I agree with Jimh_1962, if you want feedback from "NCRS types", then post on NCRS.

As we get older and are looking at limited years to enjoy what we have saved for a half a century, we realize the enjoyment of what we worked for is not the number of green backs in the bank but what you love to play with.
Some guys will never rest comfortably until they have the original radiator cap for the toy that they bought that was not original until they spend thousands to return it to "barn find" or dealer fresh original condition.
I enjoy seeing those perfect NCRS cars, but after finding out the records of C2s burned with the St Louis plant, I have no more respect for the "original" cars than I do for original 69 Z28 Camaros that are everywhere and outnumber the original production numbers.
I'm glad I returned to driving what I love rather than recreating a Mona Lisa.
You guys with money fight it out, I am Retarded and still poor hoping to leave my first love with enough to live off of when I die.
I'll go to NAPA where I can afford a functional guaranteed cap for less than 10% of the "don't know if it works" original from a guy that won't find a pressure tester to determine if it is good or not before selling it to the rich. I am sure they sell restamped radiator caps as they do engine blocks, transmissions, differentials, etc.

There is another used 306 on ebay with a BIN of $255, and it has three watchers.

And folks need to understand the 'cost per point' in the NCRS world...spending a ton on a part that might be a point or two doesn't make sense if there are other areas lacking that are bigger hits...where your money is better spent.
Some time spent in a Judging Guide will yield some eye-opening information in this regard

Burning Brakes
Why ?
I don't understand why we need to flame this guy for asking a question. I could care less how much he want's for his rad cap or care even less if someone on e-bay wants to pay up .
Good for him if there are buyers willing to pay .

Another way to look at it is pointing what some are willing to give/not give for almost nothing.
Keep an open mind.

But the reaction from others is understandable, as the OP starts of by promoting his parts sale stating he is going to be putting a lot of other parts up for sale - not what this section of forum is about...?
