Default Lack of available tire options for a 93

Hey everyone,

I'm in need of new tires, stock size and current set up is Nitto 255's up front and 285's in rears.

Americas tire showed the Continental DW's to be available which seems to be the most popular option from the searches i've done on here. Problem is, they can't get them anywhere. I was told they are discontinued!

My only option was the Nitto's which I currently have now, but I wanted to try something different.

They also have the BF Goodrich, but I'd have to go smaller in the rear to 275.

My question is has anyone gone 275 in the rear down from 285? All I see is threads of going 275 all around or as fronts, but nothing about keeping the same 255 size up front, 275 in rear.

I know tire questions get old, but this was one i couldn't find. Any info is greatly appreciated.

A 275 will not look right on your front 8.5 inch wheels, width. It will have a ballon look to it. A 275 will be fine on your rears since they are 9.5s, if you decide to go that route. I would just buy Nittos again.

Good looking out!

275's in the rear are also a little bit cheaper. Is there much size difference visually as compared to the 285's in the rears?

This might be of use: https://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?whe...cl=50mm&sr=0mm
Plug in your differences and see what comes up.

The 10mm difference is about 0.4 inches. As the owner you might a slight visual difference but I don't think anyone else will.

I had the BFGoodrich Sport Comp 2 tires on mine when I had 275s all around. I really liked that tire and they have a very good looking design in my opinion as well.

You have a lot of options with 275/255 tires. Try searching 315/275 on tire track like I have. I think I'm down to two street options now

The 275's work instead of the 285's on the 9.5" rims. I have run both sizes in the rear with 255's, 245's, or 275's up front.

For the 8.5" front wheels I have used the 255/45/17 and 245/45/17 (C5's use this front) but have not tried the 275's on an 8.5" rim. I have seen them on a friends car and they worked ok, but it is outside of most tire manufacturers recommended rim width.

There is a slight difference in height 285/40/17 = 26.0" 275/40/17 = 25.7"

Similarly there are choices for the front too. 255/45/17 = 26.0" 245/45/17 = 25.7"

Using the 25.7" tires that are slightly smaller will mean that at 60 mph on the speedometer, you will actually be going 59.2 mph. That has been close enough for me.

Good luck with your choices.

The DW's are still available and are a closeout item for discount tire and tire rack on their eBay store.

They are being replaced by Extreme Contact Sport's which should be available now or soon.

I run their 285's all the way around, couldn't be happier. Excellent tire for the money.

I thought I read somewhere that the 93 Z07 came with 275s in the rear using the same rims.

Yes. The '93 Z07 used 17" x 9.5" wheels with 275/40/17 tires on all four corners.

Except for some of the special cars like the GS, ZR1, etc all '88 through '96 came with 17" x 9.5" wheels with 275/40/17 tires either as standard or optional. ('89 through '92 this was the standard on all four corners and optional on all four corners on '88, '93 through '96)
