GM Selling ZF Transmissions?
This information was recently posted on the Corvette Caravan Chat listserv.
"To All,
I know there are not that many C4 owners on the Caravan Chat but I thought I
would pass on the following information.
GM Parts will be offering the two six-speed manual ZF corvette transmissions
(12455189 and 12455188 -- ZR ZF) to all GM Dealers at a cost of $1800, with
no core charge. This excess sale will take place by way of covisint auction on
April 24th. These are brand new production S6-40 high performance
transmissions. Please contact your local GM Dealer parts counter to obtain these
transmissions at a very low cost.
The part # 12455189 is NOT for a ZR-1, it's for the LT1-LT4, best check this
with GM before placing orders.
At the auction the minimum bid on the 12455189 transmission is $1800, but
because GM has so many available, they don't see the price moving much higher.
The auction will be on obsolete or excess inventory parts (not just these
transmissions). The GM Dealer will have to pre-register for the auction.
Everyone interested in the new ZF transmissions that GM will be selling soon,
here is the bulletin your dealers should get.

Re: GM Selling ZF Transmissions? (bogus)
Sound like a good deal but once you read into it, only dealers can bid. So unless you have a really good relationship with your local Chevy dealer, these trannys could still go for around list prices.
It sounds like GM is clearing out the shelves for this tranny. Wonder what will happen to prices once GM no longer has then available??

I would look for them to get very expensive in the future. Probably a good investment opportunity!! Guy

If they do not sell them all, the remaining inventory will likely go to VPI where you will get a huge discount. Just a thought... Maybe Superior Chevrolet would help us out here....I would take one if they didn't add too much on to the auction price...

Personally if your going to pay $3500 I would have zfdoc build you one for that price or a bit more.
The s6-40 is not the easiest to work on but over the years I have built some custom tooling and jigs and once you have that it's almost like rebuilding a normal 6speed.

He also can upgrade it with better forks and open the oil passages which Rockland does not do.
Cheager cost from Rockland is $2800 on a rebuild.
