NC License Plate/Tax info
I was told by a buddy that if you get an antique auto tag intead of a regular one the tax value on the auto is set at $500.
I run YOM plates on both the 60 and the 65. To run YOM plates in NC, the registered plate just has to be kept in the car so it really doesn't matter what it looks like (the antique plate isn't that great looking).
Anyway, My vehicle taxes went from ~$250 per year down to $6 on the vettes!
Not sure about other states but it's worth looking into!

In NC, it is 35 yrs or older for everything - antique plates, YOM plates, and exemption from all safety and emissions inspections. NC statuates for the plates are below:
G. S. 20-63 (d)
Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle and produced upon the request of any person.
20-79.4.(b)(17)
Historic Vehicle Owner. – Issuable for a motor vehicle that is at least 35 years old measured from the date of manufacture. The plate for an historic vehicle shall bear the word "Antique" unless the vehicle is a model year 1943 or older. The plate for a vehicle that is a model year 1943 or older shall bear the word "Antique" or the words "Horseless Carriage", at the option of the vehicle owner.
