Anyone have any connections or know of any VA/MD powder coating place that does wheels specifically?

Ye Olde Wheel Shoppe I think it's called in MD? Never been there but have heard many people praise their refinishing work.

There is a power coating place in Manassas that can power coat frames and other car parts. I'll try and find a phone number for you.

Yeah I talked to those guys. They will just do a solid color.

What I want is a blue base coat with black/clear sprayed over it. A friend of mine had his wheels done like that with a wine color and they turned out nice

They have my wheels, I'm painting not coating, but they PC also. I haven't got the wheels back yet, but I've seen some of their other projects and they look great.

How did you like the work? Did they have any custom colors?

they had too many colors to choose from. I took in a swatch of my exterior color and they matched it up perfectly. They PC everything. They had a tank (like army) that they were doing.

Yeah my only problem right now is figuring out what I am going to do with the car while the wheels are off of it lol

I have a few options -

buy a set of wheels ($1,000) and have them done and then TRY to sell mine

or

have the car set on jackstands for a week.

FTWIW,

After some investigating and horror stories about heating stock rims...I chose to paint my track wheels black. LilRed and probably a few others have seen them on my car and they look great IMHO. It was a medium gloss black with a flat clearcoat (I think that is right). ProTech-1 in Lorton did them for me. The owner Evan is very cool and is into racing so you can get his 'attention' with our cars easily. He can also mount and balance our wheels and has the equipment to do it.

Just a thought. Do a forum search and find out which powdercoat process you can use safely. I know the heat can adversely affect the rim integrity. American Stripping had done some rocker boxes for me on a Harley years ago and did a pretty good job. Sandblasting off chrome was a PITA...cost me a fortune.

BTW, just find somebody with a set of trackwheels you can pop on your car for a week

Its a Caddy CTS-V ...six lug wheels

Do you know what kind of paint they used? Would a regular body shop be able to tackle something like this?

I know the paint was German, but I am far from a body guy....
Evan's number at Pro-Tech1 is 703-339-4990 and he could answer questions for you....he was very reasonable to me. Has since done other work for me and it was equally great quality.

Do you have any pics? What did he charge? What was the setup dry time?

Thanks for the help!
