300 Vettes at Destin
Note: THE 4th ANNUAL EVENT IS ON SAT OCT 18, 2008
The info below is related to the 2007 event FYI.
SANDESTIN/BAYTOWNE - The Playground Corvette Club will hold it's 3rd Annual Corvette Show located on the bay side of Sandestin's Golf & Beach Resort, Walton County, near Destin Florida on Sat Oct 27, 2007. Use the Watertower as a landmark along Hwy 98. Baytowne Wharf entrance is across from the tower. You can avoid the toll bridge by taking 331 if southbound from I-10 . Turn R @ 98. To give an idea of the size, Sandestin employs 1,000 people & Hilton-Sandestin has 600 per Emerald Coast Magazine. Sandestin is on the new state map.
Organizers are expecting as many as 300 Corvettes, which will be displayed noon-5PM. The morning is for extensive set-up I gather.
Also on hand will be reps from the NCM & the World Corvette Racing Team.
The first two events (140 & 223 vettes) in Aug were a big draw. This years event will be held in Oct to avoid the Aug heat experience of the past. Aerial Pics of last years event appear w/post #6 on C5 General.
Brief tips - stay at least a couple of days to allow for a great get-away to the Emerald Coast with your vette.
Check out the following while there - Baytowne Wharf @ night/same place & the rest of Sandestin on the south side.
Going east on Hwy 98: new stores/restaurants @ Grand Boulevard one mile on L. Scenic 30A starts 3 miles away on R; First up is camping in the state park w/beach access. Scenic 30A then offers Grayton Beach & Seaside plus other high-end developements before it returns to Hwy 98 near Bay County to your R. Bay County, home to Panama City Beach, is totally transformed with high rise condo's.
Going west on 98: Huge Silver Sands outlet 3 miles on R. Opposite the outlet is a scenic beach road which returns to 98 in Okaloosa County, a 3 mile drive. At that point on the R you will find Destin Commons with BassProShop as the flagship of stores, another big draw. Going W on 98 is Osaka on the right, IMO the best restaurant around (skip the Osaka at Baytowne). Further west is Destin Harbor and more sights before Brooks Bridge @ Ft. Walton Beach.
You WILL have fun!

A few inputs on my part.
Rudy's e-mail has changed. It is rrh98vette@yahoo.com and he is in TN now. He is still a co-chair for the show. Todd is still in the area.
The first year we had 140 Corvettes.
Last year we had 223 Corvettes.
The Village has expanded and the construction is done. For those in attendance in previous years the loop by the hotel pool is connected now and the outside road by the shops has been completed. There is room for 300 Corvettes if it's done right. I am not heading up the parking crew this year. Two consecutive years was enough. I will be on the parking crew so I'll see most of you when you arrive.

I'll be there again as usual. Think the weather will be a little cooler this year.
