I'm about to move there in a month from Colorado and I've been looking at the corvette club websites and it seems they are all car shows and no racing of any type. Is there any clubs out there that race or just SCCA?

Also what road courses are within a couple hours?

Yea the colorado corvette clubs has their own auto cross events and goes to the track. Its nice cause the auto cross is built for a corvette unlike the scca events built for cars half the size of ours. Sitting in a parking lot every weekend isn't really my idea of fun.

SCCA has a chapter in Charleston. We Autox once a month, all over the state. You're only an hour and a half from Coastal Empire Chapter in Savannah. They Autox once a month at Hutchinson Island in Savannah or Roebling Road Raceway.

Next Autocross is Coastal Empire, Hutchinson Island, on Nov 2.

Wish I'd seen this sooner, South Carolina Region ran an Autox last weekend at Darlington International.

We also are not terribly far from Carolina Motorsports Park, Roebling Road Raceway, CCR (Central Carolina) and NCR (North Carolina) SCCA regions. I run with all of them. From Charleston you can road race or Autox every weekend all year long of you don't mind a little driving. I even run with Jacksonville 3 or 4 times a year.

Being from Charleston I'd encourage you to join the SwampFox and SCR facebook groups. Our Monthly meeting is usually the first week of the month. I shoot for the first Tuesday, but we're a small group so I try to be flexible and I'll adjust it if it helps get more of us together to have some dinner and good coversation.

Just to give an idea of how busy you can be.. I'm on autox 15 this season. I sat out 3. I can't do track days again until next year so I have no count of how many have been run around here, but I do know that there is opportunity to run lots of those track days being so close to RRR and CMP. A lot of locals also run Road Atlanta.

Fantastic, just the stuff I wanted to know. I'm really excited for year round racing and no snow.

On a side note do you mind telling me what areas of Charleston are good and bad as far living with a family?

West Ashely and Mt Pleasant are great. Goose Creek is pretty good. Ladson OK. Daniel Island too. If you can swing Sullivan's Island or Isle of Palms you'll never want to live anywhere else, but those two are really pricey.

Stay OUT of North Charleston. Don't even think about living in North Charleston unless you want wrap your kids in body armor.

Summerville is also a great place to live. SMall town atmosphere, good schools and still pretty affordable. Moved here 17 years ago and couldn't have picked a better place. Give me a shout if you have any other questions re: the Charleston area.

I ended up getting a rental house out in Moncks Corner. Kinda far out for my wife's job and stuff, but its a good starting location for us to get to know the area. Look forward to meeting y'all at some events.
