Default Anyone in NC know about GVWR rules?

Any NC members know about the DMV rules for highway/town/insurance/plates for heavy (1 ton) pick up trucks with a GVWR of 11.5K?

I have weighted tags on my '05 2500HD Duramax.

My tags are good to 14k lbs.

That site is impossible to use. I looked all over it trying to find the rules and whether I needed to get weighted tags when I purchased my tags in May. Guy at DMV said don't worry about it and go with regular tags which is what I did.

In NC if towing by SUV or car standard tags is really all you should need...if by a vehicle designed to carry load...truck, box truck or such you are supposed to get weighted tags. Basically you pay for how much weight you want to carry/tow . Here is the deal. Do you want to roll the dice on being stopped or not? Technically NC weigh stations are supposed to be used by more than just semi's. The fines for being over your weight limit will make paying for weighted tags seem like chump change, but the fact of the matter is very few non-commercial carriers (weighted tag vehicles) will ever have to worry about this...And yes it is nothing more than revenue generation for the pickup truck driver.

Its best explained under the NC general statue http://www.ncga.state.nc.us/EnactedL.../GS_20-88.html

Thanks. I actually called DMV and got a very helpful lady who said all I would have to do is get plates that are based on the weight of the truck/load.

She said I would be able to go on any road, so that is great.

I wound up getting a new F350 Platinum.

How heavy of a weight did you get on the tags?

I'm in TN, no weighted tags. I was asking about NC in case we hop the border and live NC when we move.
