Me and a few friends (bmw guys) are going to go up to tail of the dragon (pending weather ) We want to do both the tail and cherohala skyway.

Returning back Tuesday Dec 29, 2015

Just came back from running the Blue Ridge Parkway, Dragon and Skyway. The Skyway is a bust for a fun ride, but for scenic ride it's great if sun is out. Lots more twisting and challenging roads in that area. Get America rides maps 7 and 9. Have fun and don't miss Bryson City, TN, great brew pup across from train depot.

Enjoy Florida in December and leave the plowing of the roads to the local DOTs.

And most places up there close down for the winter. In fact, most of them have already closed. Both the Tail of the Dragon store and the Deals Gap store and Inn.

i drove the whole dragon last december, it was bright and clear about 60 degrees.

the deals gap store at the front was closed, and there were a few other sports cars (miatas, lotus, vettes) there.

obviously if there is snow,ice or rain, i wouldn't go close !!

I'll be making this drive in early September. I have to go to a wedding in Georgia. Was going to drive up from FL hit the Dragon, Vette museum, and on return hit wedding.

While it might be sunny and 60 degrees in December the dot starts laying gravel/sand at the first sign of freezing nite temps. That stuff can play havoc on your lower body panels and kick back on your windshield if you are behind someone. . Best time to go is spring to mid November. By spring the road debri is pretty much gone. Suicide otherwise.

May Thru August as winter road gravel has been kicked to the side of the road and before families start showing up to view fall leaves

yep, and those summer only tires may not perform on those cold roads either.
