Speeding ticket advise needed near Charlotte, NC
I just got my first speeding ticket today - 86 in a 60, $380 and 6 points. Got stopped in York County just South of Charlotte in South Carolina. The officer said that if I show up he will reduce to ticket cost but didn't say anything about the point. It wasn't a discussion I was planning to have on the side of the road. I'm planning to hire a lawyer so I don't have to sit around a court house. Does anyone know of any good traffic lawyers in the area?
Thanks

I would show up to court. He will probably drop 2 points and the fine in half. if you catch him outside the court room, you can probably handle it before court goes into session and get out of there. The cops around rock hill and ft mill are bad.

Not sure what the SC laws are - but in NC I hired a lawyer - got the speeding dropped to 9 over and used the "Prayer for Judgement" to get out of any points.

I believe you'll have to get an attorney that does York County. I know several very good attorneys here in Charlotte; however, I don't think any of them can help you with a York County ticket.

The traffic court penalties in NC and SC are very different. In NC you can be arrested for 15mph over and the penalties are otherwise unfair and draconian. This has spawned a system where almost everyone challenges tickets and the attorneys make a killing get tickets reduced to reasonable fines. In SC the penalties are more reasonable and therefore the amount to be gained from challenging a tickets is less. You can probably do as well by showing up in court and working the the LEO and the solicitor than by hiring a lawyer. Of course, you will kill a day doing that.

Trafficticket.com works. You put in the state, municipality and charge and *poof*: a list of traffic lawyers comes up. easy/peasy, they all take VISA over the phone and show up on your behalf.
Cases in point: November 1999 I got a ticket on I285 around Marietta, GA 80/60 plus evading. Lawyer was $400 and the charges were dropped.
May 2000 I got a ticket on I-65 north of Scottsburg, IN. 90/70. Lawyer was $375 and charges were dropped.
I've since cut off my lead foot. I also got married. Life happens.

Peter Nosal is a former PO. Haven't used them personally but there website looks good. Good reviews too. Let us know how it goes!

Not sure how NC works, but if you meet up with the officer before court they will often reduce it to half or so. Also in SC you can take a defensive driving course and it'll reduce the points by half as well. So if they drop it to four points, with the class it'd be down to do. Here, if it's a first offense, it usually doesn't affect your insurance cost. Again I'm not sure about NC's laws. Most (and I don't mean all) cops in this area are fair and nice if approached nicely and humbly. (my BF is a sheriff's deputy). I've also seen cops unable to show up to court and the tickets get thrown out completely.
