NC: Do you want to drive our amazing backroads?

Isn't that a great road? It seems to have a couple of different names, Explorer Rd is how it's marked at the 215 end. I usually drive it the other way (215 down to 281) simply because I go up 215 first to the BRP, pause at the overlook then head back down. Yes, it's got some bad pavement in spots. Rode it Sunday on my motorcycle.
Another one you might want to try is Silversteen, it turns off 281 south of Wolf Mtn. and runs down to 64 at the Toxaway Trading Post. The pavement is pretty good and it's got some good turns and a real pretty area where it runs along the west fork of the French Broad River. I like that it eliminates all the construction on 64.
Have you driven NC 151? It's pretty close to you. Challenging for sure.

Traffic in Hampton Roads is always a ***** nightmare. Traffic lights, slow drivers and trucks. Luckily, the southern portion of Virginia Beach runs all the way to Carolina (maybe 12 miles) and the roads are open and nice. Once you cross the line into say Moyock, there are many side roads providing driving time, not traffic.
Ive been to Asheville and it is just a beautiful place and the home of America's most impressive residence, in my opinion with fantastic roads and scenery. I have driven the Blue Ridge Parkway, albiet in my Nissan 5 speed Frontier. Yeah, but at least I could shift.
To this day one of my favorite driving places is the finger lakes region of New York in the summer. Spent about a week up there with my Corvette so my apologizes to the occasional farmer, cows and whatever else I may have disturbed. Stopped in Watkins Glen and watched my friends run their German cars around the track. Yeah, all fine and dandy but I will take my Corvette any day over them.

Going to drive up to Maggie Valley this Saturday and go to the Wheels of Time Museum. Most of my friends will be on cruiser bikes but I'm taking my GS. We've got some cabins rented. Going to be a laid back affair compared to the back road scorching I usually do. Might even look at the leaves.

Lots of wild fires in the NC & TN mountains the last couple of weeks. Finally getting some rain today.

They say all the fires are out now although Gatlinburg and vicinity are without power. Probably too soon to try to drive up there this weekend.

Maybe we could get some other locals to hit that road. I need to put more miles on my new GS.
