tail of dragon/ labor day weekend
Any fun to be had at Tail of the dragon on labor day weekend? Been there one time a few years ago. Wife wants to head that way next weekend. Me thinks it will be too crowded.
I would rather wait a few weekends and head up there for the Vette gathering.
Thoughts?

I've never gone up there on a holiday weekend. I can only imagine the crowd. Some friends and I are going up to the Diamondback late September, and we're going on a weekday just to avoid the crowd. I've read the TOD is bumper to bumper on busy weekends. I do believe that girl would enjoy a weekend at Edisto in the Vette.

I avoid the Dragon on any weekend. LEO out in full force for sure Labor Day. I got in a nice 300+ mile loop this weekend, staying home Labor Day weekend.

Avoid weekends now thru early November. During the week is usually OK in the morning. We have been there about a dozen times since we live just 2 hours away.
Hard to believe but it is actually true about 'bumper to bumper' on some weekends. We experienced it a few years back with a BMW caravan. Never again. It's pointless.

My wife recently purchased her 2001 C5 Vert and we are heading to a family wedding in Asheville, NC on October 1st. Currently our plan is after the wedding to drive down and take a ride through the TOD.
We should be driving it on a Monday or Tuesday. Any tips for newbies doing this?
Thanks

Stay in your lane - can't emphasize this enough, buckle up - and watch out for bikes. Blount County Tennessee is a great place - except for the Magistrate's Desk. If you're thinking about taking pics while she's driving - consider a GoPro or look for your car on KillBoy.com a couple of days after your drive.

Here are a few photos during our last trip in our old AMC Matador X. If the AMC can handle the curves, don't even worry about a Corvette. The photos are on top of the dam, by the dragon sculpture (NC side at the beginning), and a pro photo along the dragon. Have FUN!!

I just got back from ripping through there...went this week AFTER labor day during the week and minimal traffic and zero LEO. Loved the drive...here's our GT-R having a field day just a few days ago.
Stood at Fontana, drove the Moonshine 28 and did Tail of the Dragon. Let me tell you, coming back from Gatlinburg and going through the Foothills and the Dragon in pitch darkness is "interesting" to say the least. No speed runs on that particular trip.
