Default Ft Myers to Destin, FL

Looking for suggestions for a more scenic ride from Ft Myers to Destin, FL than the super slab

Is it ok to jump on US 19 north and take US 98 to Destin?

Google maps says the time/distance isn't a lot more than the Interstate.

I will be traveling on Thursday 1/29.

Thanks.

US 19 brings lots of memories for me as I also lived in SW FL for over 30 years. When I attended FSU back in the early 70's, US19 was basically all there was to Tallahassee as there was no I-75 yet. Going past Weekie Wachee and through the paper mill town of Perry was always part of the drive. Once you were past Pinellas, north of St Pete, the traffic lights were minimal. Today I would hate to think how many lights there are, but it may still be an interesting fun drive to see 'old' Florida.
If you have time along the way for side trips, a drive out to Cedar Key is always different, manatee viewing in the winter in Citrus County (not sure if they are at the power plant anymore), plus the 'mermaids' are still there at Weekie Wachee too. Have fun!

19 will be the better ride. Not until you get to Hernando county though.

19 is the best way to go. Just watch out for speed traps in the small towns. Cedar Key is a great idea. I used to drive to Tallahassee and it's quicker than. 75/10.

Be mindful of the time of day when you get to 98. It can turn into a parking lot from Navarre to Destin between 1500 and 1800 during the week. Remember we are on central time up here. Enjoy your trip. I'm 15 minutes north of Destin.
