Default ***The Official 2017 Vettes4Vets Talladega Thread!!!!***

Hi everybody! Hope you all had happy holidays and that this year is going great! I can't speak for y'all, but I have so much planned between now and May its crazy! I see from Clints thread many of you already early-bird registered and took advantage of the free hat or t-shirt. Good deal!

For those of you that are new to the event or haven't yet signed up...I encourage you to do it now as spots are going quickly! A quick overview is that you can run any car (no not just corvettes) on the track. There is a lead pace car and a trailing pace car. There is no passing allowed but we are spaced out nicely and its organized very well so as to get a nice feel for what the track is like.

Please follow the link below to register. It's the 4th tab over on the top of the webpage.

http://www.vettes4vets.org/

ALSO: Don't forget to reserve your hotel room. They book up quickly as well!

We all had a blast last year and I am thinking this year will be nothing short of Awesome!!!

Running Order!!! Please submit your First and Last Name and Corvetteforum Name: As you all know I try each year to coordinate a "Corvetteforum Group" and keep us running together for at least 2 runs minimum. This year is no different, so please PM message me your full name and corvetteforum name so we can start to get a running order list going. PM'ing is the best way instead of replying or quoting the list so that we don't see multiple lists throughout the thread. I can just update the one main list.

New 2017 Group Photo!!! Last year...our good friend and photographer Mr. Tim, SoSlow, LeGros was nice enough to take a beautiful group photo of us all. If you haven't seen it, I have added it to this thread below. This year I have proposed to Tim that we "up the bar a little". We would have our cars lined up in a vertical straight line with the noses pointed inward on the left and right sides and then have all of us in the middle. Tim and I agree should make for a great photo! I figure we can do this in the area with the track in the background towards the bottom area just before the garage. We could do it right after the final run is done toward the end of the day so that as to not cause any traffic issues.

New for 2017 12"x18" Signed Posters for All!!! I am going to be designing posters for us and bring them along with some Sharpies for everybody to sign. This way you can go home with a little memento. Something you can get framed and put in your man-cave or garage. Just let me know if your interested, I'll make sure to print out enough of them. I am still working on the design.

2017 Meet and Eat: I also would like to know does anybody want to meet up friday night for dinner at mutually agreed upon restaurant? I understand that the event has a dinner but some of us like myself may not attend that or arrive to late. We could meet up at a Texas Roadhouse or other nice restaurant in the area at an agreed upon time? I am open to suggestions.

So yeah...good things to come for this year!
Let me know your thoughts about the group picture, signed posters for all, and the meet and eat.

Jeff~Xtreme

Nice work, Jeff! Put me down to run in the forum group as well. Looks like you were nominated official cameraman, Tim. I second the motion.

I plan to bring the Corvette forum banner again, and perhaps we can incorporate it into one of the group picture(s). This thing has some serious history and travels. I have had it on Daytona, Talladega, PBIR, Sebring, Road America, Ron Fellows Spring Mnt racing resort, others have had it at Carlisle, Bloomington Gold, and the annual Corvette Bash in Bowling Green Ky. This will be at least the 3rd time the banner will be at V4V at Talladega, but due to all the other activities it usually takes a back seat, so hopefully we can get some images this time. Anyone in this thread who has not already signed it can ink it with your forum/real name.

I like the car lineup with group photo, that would be cool. Also, a few years ago we wanted to do a group pic in victory lane during lunch hour but for whatever reason it didn't work out. Maybe this year, just an idea

Mike all the above sounds good to me. There is no reason we can't get a shot in Winner's circle and have the banner in it also. We should have plenty of time to get everything done..Jeff dinner Friday night sounds good we just have to find a place everyone can find..

Not sure how many forum group runs we're doing. It seems like we did at least 2 last year, as Charles and me took turns leading each other. Hope that works out again.

I bought 4 sessions total with hopes of a bonus fun run at the end of the day.

Just a quick question. What air temps do you run in your tires there (if any different than the normal 30psi).

I have 2 questions...
1. Can verts ride with the top down?
2. What are the advantages to riding Front/Mid/Rear of the pack?

I run with the same pressures as on the street, never had a problem.

Verts can run with the top down, yes.

Running up front affords less rubbernecking and a more constant speed.

Thanks, Mike. This sounds pretty interesting. I think I may sign up for it; the only thing holding me back is the trip getting there and back. Haven't decided if I would go solo, or if the wife and daughter would come along, albeit separately.

Hope you can make it. There is nothing like driving in the 33 degree high banks, it's absolutely incredible. There is no place like except Daytona which cost much more to drive. This event is run by great people for a great cause and you'll make friends with some true gents here on the forum. Last year I counted over 100 Corvettes. Tim always takes tons of pictures and offers them up for free out of his photobucket account, plus there is always a professional there taking pictures that you can purchase from any size up to 20x30 poster, including aluminum prints which are the most brilliant, sharp, and vivid images you will ever get of your Vette. I'll see if I can dig some pics up from previous years.

The only pictures of pictures I currently have in photobucket are from Daytona, but they are just the same quality as the ones I have had made from Talladega

This is a link to the photography outfit that has been there in previous years, and I assume will be again this year.

tealex - check the website link at the top of the page. There is a "Show & Shine" on Friday afternoon at Hendricks & track day is Saturday. Several people go out to dinner on Friday &/or Saturday night. There is a lake with rental options and a national forest. Otherwise ... in my opinion ... it's the track and that's why many of us are there. Come join us - you will have a blast.

You can also plan to spend a day/night on your way down or back in places like Greenville SC ... if you have not visited ... downtown is a must see. Hotels, restaurants, pubs, theatres, Falls Park, Greenville Little Theatre, Peace Center, etc etc etc. We also have the BMW museum tour next to the production plant. SOme very cool cars.

If you have an hour or two, the International motorsports hall of fame is well worth the visit. It is located next door to the speedway. Admission - $12
