Default Willow Springs with OTR, March 16th

http://www.opentrackracing.com/

$145 for the day including lunch and an OTR T-Shirt. I assume most of the regular vette drivers will be there: Allan, Ryan, Charles, Janet and Mike. New participants are always welcome.

I'm thinking about taking a vacation day to get in several laps. This will be my first time with Open Track Racing. How do their track days compare with ones by other groups? Hope it has a casual feel (like a Friday with SpeedVentures).

I assume Joe will be there also, since he started this thread. Anyone else?

Bob

I've got a t-shirt that has the best reply to these smart-a.. comments:

SOME FEAR
('Cause if you ain't ever been scared (just a little), then you ain't going as fast as you could.)

I would add to that, "If you've never had (or almost had) an off-track experience, then you haven't found out how fast you can drive that track. - There's only one way to find the limit, by exceeding it. "

I thought that's where my pit was!

Bob,

Mike is just joking...that's HIS SUV in the background...HIS jack I'm using....those are HIS wheels and tires I'm installing. If he hadn't been so gracious, I woudn't have gotten the car home that day

He can razz me all he wants

Well, I've had off-tracks at Spring Mountain, and every track in CA (except Sears Point). I've filled the car with dust a couple times. But I've never gone AS FAR off-track as you did.

So far, I've been lucky, because I've never needed any assistance to get it back on-track, or to get it home. When Iwas 'tracking' the C4, I limped home with a bad automatic transmission a couple times, and I got a little oil on the track once.

At first, I think I was very lucky. Now, I think I've learned how to recognize early that I've overdone it and then go off-track safely.

Looking forward to the 16th,
Bob

"If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough. - M. Andretti"

So true. Was that said by Mario or Michael? Both have been known to exceed the limits a few times. I saw Michael go into the run-off area (didn't turn) at Turn 9 at Long Beach several times.

I just got confirmation from OTR, and I've made my hotel reservation. Allan, will we see you at Willow Springs this Wednesday?

That was Mario. I'm still on the mend from a bad flu, so I'm staying off the tracks until I can see straight
