Who to buy tires from locally?
Looks like I will need a new set shortly. So.... who do you guys trust your cars to mount new tires? I prefer to deal locally and have some special needs. I just moved to OC from Chicago with my 90' ZR-1.
I run 100% magnesium Dymags, 11X17"s on the front and 13X17"s on the back. Only Michelin and Kumho make the 335-35-17's I need for the rears. I'm most concerned about some bozo screwing up the wheels, either the finish or worse when mounting.
Some suggestions here would be appreciated.
Thanks
Hans

Go to Tires4U on Orangethorpe in Buena Park (Kumho Tire Store) . Ask for Wilson- Tell him "Dan with the Red Vet" sent me. They can get you your tires in a day (nobody will stock those) - or try kumhousa.com and look for the phone number in the location- again, ask for Wilson.

I have had good experience with Allen Tire @ Beach Bl. & Main St, Huntington Beach.
They do tires for Dellilo Chevrolet.
They replaced a damaged tire for me in the past, and just last week they put a set of Firestone Wide Ovals on. They are real close to Tire Rack on prices. It was less than $100 more for the set of 4.
The wheels did not have a mark or flaw before the work, and are still perfect.

A '90 ZR-1? Cool. I have a '94 ZR-1 VIN# 010. Hope to see you around.
Just put a set of Nitto's on the ZR-1. Ordered from Discount tires online. Installed by Tire Metro in Garden Grove. Did a good job. Don't know about those magnesium wheels though. Very delicate to work with. Good luck.

You are in Orange..., lucky you!
When I buy tires, I ALWAYS order them through the Tire Rack and have them shipped directly to The Big O Tire Store on Katella at the 55. Call Big O to let them know what you are doing. Big O then receives them, mounts, and balances them for me.
While they have absolutely no problem with this, Big O always ask why I do it this way. When I tell them what I paid for the tires, (usually at least $200-400/set cheaper than their best price even with the shipping), they get the picture and agree.
Be sure to tell them about your wheel concerns. They've not screwed up the soft aluminum Boyds wheels on my '91 Vette.

Thanks for all the advice and reccomendations guys! This is something I'll have to do in the next few weeks. I will probably go with the Kumho's, Michelins would be great but are a bit pricey.
If you own a 90'-95' ZR-1 in the area, Greg, aka RedRiderZR-1, is getting an informal ZR-1 group and GTG going here in the next few weeks. Check in for details in the CF ZR-1 page or over at the ZR-1.net f@rum. Here's a link to the CF thread... Hope to see you there.

I shopped around and even checked Tire Rack but no one could beat Discount Tire in Huntington Beach. I purchased the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 paid $1,270.00 for ALL 4 installed and balanced - I have a 2004 ZO6.

I found the best prices for tires at Tire Rack. I bought them and they were shipped directly to the installer within a few days. They also provide recommended installers on their website were you order them. The installers are also rated by the customers with comments.
I bought my Michelins and had them mounted at Big O Tire in Irvine.
