Here is the latest from the Santa Monica Pier Route 66 President Darleen Bitter:
From the Victorville Route 66 Museum, we will be traveling south on I-15, exiting route 66 (Foothill Blvd) where will will be picking up a few more cars. They will be departing from the old Garage at foothill and archibald and from the Magic Lamp Inn. We are in the process of contacting the media in Rancho Cucamonga and surrounding areas to cover the cruise. Depending on the location of additional participants we will swing off the freeway to "parade" and collect more participants to the cruise. We will be staging at an area TBD (santa monica area). We will then cruise onto the pier as a group. No more cars will be allowed onto the pier after the group arrives. It is very important that everyone notifies us of their participation on the pier. Anyone can cruise with us, but we have 140 spaces reserved for the car show/shine participants. We will be receiving car clubs from all over southern california. PARTICIPANTS WILL BE GIVEN A PASS ONTO THE PIER AT THE STAGING AREA. NO OTHER CARS WILL BE ALLOWED ONTO THE PIER.
Schedule:
0830 to 0900: veterans day recognition ceremony
0900 to 0930: classic car caravan arrives (140 vintage automobiles, but any year corvette or mustang)
0930 to 1000: civic leaders speeches and state resolution
1000 to 1300: authors and artists event
1000 to 1600: car show begins
1111 : gumpathon runners finish transcontinental run across the United States
1130 to 1230: interview of gumpathon finishers
1300 to 1500: route 66 legends series gegins on stage with various route 66 icons
1500 to 1600: route 66 car show awards onstage
1600 hours : route 66 birthday event concludes
This is what i have from the Route 66 pier group for now

You will not be trapped on the pier, we told the pier folks that we really wanted out of there by 2 pm and thought the car show should be over by then but they have listed it until 4 pm. when you park, try and be sure you have an exit but it is a standard parking lot so getting out should not be a problem. (i hope)

Hi everybody, i just heard from Darleen Bitter about the route 66 pier event on nov. 11.
She is requesting each of you that wish to go to send her an email so she can have a pass ready for you. Her email address is darleenbitter@msn.com let her know where you will be joining the caravan, such as joining at the museum, rancho cucamonga or the santa monica staging area. I assume she will hand out the passes at the santa monica staging area.
Its a first come first serve for the passes and the pier is only allowing 140 cars onto the pier. if you do not plan on parking on the pier you do not need to contact her, just park off site and join us in the fun.
I look forward to meeting all of you, doug
by the way, when i hear where the staging area is i will post it up asap.

Please see my posting on the santa monica pier cruise. Some new info and the number of cars allowed onto the pier has been reduced by 30! Everyone is invited to cruise with us and stage/meet/greet but parking on the pier will be controlled by a "pass", but there will be parking on the lower parking lot (controlled by the National Park Service, who? yeah NPS) and they charge somewhere around $8 for parking.
The Corvette family has responded in a huge way, such that Darleen is asking for other brands of cars now. Anyway, see my post for latest info.
Thank you, Doug

I'm thinking the meet to be either at Tommy's off Roscoe on the 405, or....theres a small parking area enough for 10+ cars EXACTLY off the burbank exit on the 405S:
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&sour...07398&t=h&z=18
Which would you guys prefer? The burbank exit is closer to the 101,,,so its easier for guys coming from the 101 areas

Here is the latest in this evening from darleen:
Maps and passes will be available at the museum or the magic lamp location. those participating must have a signed release, pls return the release to darleen at the pier. Our route once in santa monica is mostly residential as we reach the assembly area. this is the least "offensive" route for our cruise and to traffic in the santa monica area.
Leave museum at 6 am sharp.
South on I-15, exiting Foothill Blvd. (exit foothill at approx. 0640 hours)
We will be led down foothill for a mini parade by city council member sam spagnolo
The group from the magic lamp will join as we drive by (adding to the back of the caravan). (SO I DONT KNOW IF MAPS AND PASSES WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE MAGIC LAMP AS IT SOUNDS AS THOUGH WE MAY NOT BE STOPPING THERE? IF NOT, GET YOUR PASS AT THE STAGING POINT IN SM.)
Approximately 7 am:
From foothill we will go north on mountain ave to the 210 frwy
210 west to the 405 south
405 south to the 10 west
exit cloverfield blvd
turn right at exit
turn right at 26th st (residential area)
turn left onto san vicente blvd
we will assemble on san vicente blvd, west of 14th st. this is a residential area, park at the curb, fall into line with your "group".
Corvettes at the head
motorcycles at the rear
all else in the middle
those cars with route 66 gals will be mingled throughout the group regardless of car model. approx 9 am we cruise down ocean blvd and turn right onto the santa monica pier. watch for the corvettes to head out as your cue to cruise. we do not have any police assistance through santa monica. we can not block traffic, obey all traffic laws. everyone is welcome to cruise with us, but only those with a pass will be allowed onto the pier (aka pier deck).
those not parking on the pier can access the closest parking via pch (lot 1N). Parking fee is 7 or 8 dollars in that lot. Parking map: http://parking.smgov.net/overview.html
due to the events happening during the car show and the number of pedestrians at the car show, cars are asked to remain until after the awards at 3:30. If you cannot stay until that time, pls park in lot 1N.
pls follow the directions of the parking attendants (volunteers)
That is the latest info from darleen. The route is listed, but you may need your nav or a map or follow someone who has one. Lets be careful, especially in santa monica as they dont seem to enthused about the event it sounds like. dont want someone getting a cite.
any questions, send me a pm or post it on this site.
thanks, doug
