Default Need opinions on a shop

Hi guys

I am thinking of taking my 08 Z06 to this shop in San Diego for 30k maintenance:
Corvette Shop
4645 Ruffner St Ste I
San Diego, CA 92111
(858) 277-8388
http://www.yelp.com/biz/corvette-shop-san-diego

I wanted to ask if any of you guys have been to this shop or if you could offer any advice?

Also, is there any shop in San Diego that can do the wiggle test? Spoke to 2 dealers here in San Diego and none of them had a clue as to what I was talking about.

The person I talked to at the shop above (Corvette Shop) told me not to worry about the wiggle test and dismissed the whole valve guide wear issue.

If you don't mind the drive and taking the Amtrak home, we can get the valve job done and install new SS exhaust valves and bronze valve guides. Then you can ride train back down when it's ready to go. Don't ignore the guide wear, because it really is an issue. We have seen it on countless LS7 heads over the years. From low mileage to high mileage it seems any LS7 head can start to wear out the guides.
The scary part is how much damage is done if a valve breaks off, usually grenades the entire engine and ruins the block.

Feel free to call us or send a PM to talk more.

frankly if they discredit the issue and claim to "work" on these cars regularly, then they must be living under a rock.... IMO

I apologize, I didnt mean to say that they "dismissed the valve guide wear" instead meant that they dismissed the wiggle test as being not a good indicator of the valve guide problem. He said it could be all fine after the wiggle test and then go bad/drop a valve a couple thousand miles later. He said the only way to know if the issue exists for sure is to take the engine apart and measure the guides.

I would recommend choosing another shop.

I took my C5 to Larry (after making an appointment) to replace the oil pressure sender. When I got there, he told me he was "overbooked" and sent me away.

Later, when I inherited my father's '61, I towed it there (it had been parked for 25 years just 2 miles from his shop). He did get the car running, but net/net, he did more harm than good. The paint was damaged (he claimed it 'flaked off'), but it's clearly a fluid spill (brake fluid/carb cleaner) on the fender. Also, he didn't drain the old gas from the tank, which caused several intake valves to stick, leading to bent pushrods. Later as I started to work on the car myself, I noticed he didn't even change the oil filter (unless he has a private stock of 25 year old "Target" brand oil filters!).

I would pass on the corvette shop. I've used them on a couple of projects. Larry is a good guy but his outlook on how and what you should do to your corvette is off. I would stick to the shops mentioned above in my opinion.
