+1. Sorry to hear this Howie. But it's great to hear you already have a replacement! Wouldn't be the same without you in a vette.

Yup for about 20 years now...which is a shame since I'm too young for this crap, I was an overly active kid so I had my first blow out at 9 skiing in Mammoth with my dad.

Anyways after my last trip out I could barely push on my brake pedal the whole way home. Just too much pain..

Keeping an eye on the long term forecast. Still seems hot. Since moving down here I have been doing some data collection and am working on the following table:

Exterior temp - Number of laps the car seems to be able to do
100*F - 1.5 laps
95*F - 2 laps
90*F - 3 laps
[...] ??
70*F - 5-6 laps?

Sounds like time for an oil cooler first and then see how it effects your coolant temps.

Also, have you cleaned out your condenser of leaves , etc.

With just a Setrab 25 row oil cooler and a clean condenser front my 02 Z never ran hot, even with both my son and I driving. I do understand that you run harder than I ever did, but still. What you post for laps in heat seems very odd.

The car does need some parts, still figuring out which ones I want.

I have cleaned out the rad a bit but I think I need a bigger air compressor - there is some stuff in the top of the condensor that is really wedged in there.

(edit - but not being too melodramatic - the car really was nudging 250*F water at the 100*F June WSIR day after two laps, plus the cluch started sticking and I finally tore a tie rod boot...)

I think you're right, Ed. I had that happen to my 08 Z06 in summer 2013 and after Donny REMOVED the radiator to clean out all of the dust and debris it ran cool again. I tried to blow it out myself and there's no way I could do as good a job.

I would at least remove the cooler and get thme cleaned out properly. I have long alum air wand with a small hole drilled in it if you want to do a better job with coolers mounted. It slips between fan/radiator/condensor.

If I had a C5 I would go with ED's proven setup.

Make sure your thermostat is working porperly and that your fans are coming on correctly !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I built a similar wand out of a PVC pipe...but I think I need a bigger air supply that can feed more high pressure air. Lots of stuff came out but there is still more stuff buried in the condenser.

DH needs to get out there and drive. That's the prescription for inner peace. (And at least he HAS a car that can be tracked, unlike some of us.) Getting back on the track will be good for his soul. Once he's out there he'll forget all about his busted up, bruised, and sore body not to mention his similarly banged-up net worth. Why I'll bet he's forgotten about all of this already.

I'm using a Ed set up with a 30row cooler and 2 pusher fans to help with extra flow. On a stock radiator my temp is always under control in any temp now.....

DH,

Why don't you drive up with me and Ed in the Altima? It'll be the first time the three of us would be at the track without a Corvette. C'mon. Make history.

The Stig
