Default Where to go to get front speaker fixed?

Hi there Southern California friends,

The front right speaker in my 2000 convertible has started to sound like someone sliced the cone with a razor blade. Any ideas where to take it to get fixed? I just don't want to get into this on my own. Thanks.

Very easy to do on your own even if you are not real handy.
Go out there and just try to get the speaker grille off. By far the hardest part. If you can get that off, you are home free. You will see 4 Phillips head screws. Take them off and the speaker will lift out. Unplug the wire in the back and you are halfway there. Go out and buy a same size speaker and install it. You can do it.

What a great Forum. Thanks. Once I was handy and restored cars and fixed everything and anything that broke around the house. Now? I'd really rather not. Although.....Hmmm...maybe just one more time I will try myself.

If you need help changing this let me know. I have done a full upgrade on the system in my C5. It is about a 30 minute job to change the speaker pod.

As a picky dude, I have been very happy with service and parts at OC Speaker in Garden Grove, and am a repeat customer there.

Thanks. Funny thing, yesterday for a few minutes it sounded just fine and I thought I'd been duped into just imagining it was bad. Then......bad again, real bad!! So, I'll see about when I have some time, and you have some time. Thanks.

I have often overestimated my enthusiasm for working on cars, but this is pretty easy.

I have gone in there a couple of times to get at my window motor, which requires taking out the speaker. I broke a couple of clips on the door panel, but that is all the trouble I encountered, and that was just a rookie error, I was finding my way and didn't know what to pull which way.

And now for the outcome. Thanks and MUCH thanks to Gary, AKA SilverC54me. Visited Gary today and what do you know? Fixed. This had a very good outcome and I made a new Corvette friend. By the way, he has two beautiful Corvettes!! Thanks again Gary.
