I was going to go but had a late night Friday and opted to gamble for Sunday (today) street legals. It was a virtual ghost town until noon and even then the crowd was light. You could hot lap at will all morning. Rain shut it down around 1 or so.

Yeah today was good. Very light crowd. No more than 4 cars per lane wait. I was running mid 10s with no roll bar and they didnt even look my way once.

How many passes did you make?

Did they ask your estimated time during tech?

I've seen guys sent home for tapping low 11's without a cage. Glad you didn't get the boot.

3 passes. The girl in the booth just handed me my slip every time, no questions asked. They did mention during tech that 2008 and newer vettes were allowed to go as fast as 10.0 without a cage and 11.5 for older vettes. That was a first for me. They probably didn't know what year my car was. Lol

That makes sense now. I've seen some C6 Z06's go sub 11.5 and get the boot. They must have been 2006-2007 model year cars.

If you had gotten there earlier you could have hot lapped like crazy. I had 12 passes by noon and I was lazy about getting back in line.

I usually only look to do 3-5 passes unless I think i can go faster but I knew I didn't have the tires to do much better.

How does that make sense? What makes a 08 stronger/safer than 05-07?

It makes sense in what I observed taking place at the track and not that 05-07's are any 'weaker' structurally than 08+ cars.

In other words, I could not figure out why some cars got the boot for running under certain times and other did not, in spite of the roll cage issue. I was unaware of the 2008+ rule set which allowed for newer cars to run quicker without a cage.

Note to self: write in 2008 for year model on tech card.

Yeah the rule doesnt make sense to me since C5's and C6's basically share the same frame and chasis. Only difference would be that C6Z's frames are aluminum vs steel.

I'm not at the 11.5 barrier yet so I don't have to play that card. It was a good day though as I got 16 passes by 1250.

You got lucky just like I did 2 weeks ago. The lady never cares but the Asian guy always kicks me out. When I mention the 2008 thing he says its only for cars in stock form and on stock tires. He has kicked me out almost every time I go. That is why i make most my runs right away in the morning before he is done with tech and gets over to the ticket booth.

I also put 2008 instead of 2007 on my tech card every time.

I know the guy your speak of. To put it nicely he's an idiot. He tried to give me grief about wearing a helmet during a run (which I did) but he failed to realize I took it off while waiting in line for the time slip as he was fumbling around trying to hand them out. I politely corrected him in his ways.

Actually it was the Asian guy telling me all this. Same guy from Irwindale. He's cool and knows me but when his boss is around he has to be a little ****. He's usually really cool tho. He knows guys just wanna have fun and these cars aren't some unsafe crap shoot ricers.

I have to disagree with you. He has kicked me out a million times over the years. Even the other employees at Irwindale and Fontana say he's a **** lol. But maybe you have a different relationship with him than others. In fact he told me last Sunday when I was there (About 2 weeks ago) "You cant go faster than 11.5 or we will take your wrist band" I told him its a 2008 and he looked at my tires and said "your not on stock tires, and I know your car isn't stock". I told him that other tracks across the US are allowing it and he said "Well we don't"

Hopefully they lighten up on that...
